    guys over 50 doing maintenance

    50. I still do most of my own stuff unless I am too busy! I go through phases when I want to do the work or just want to take it somewhere. I will say climbing up and down ladders on submarines is getting old.

2015 Subaru 2.0 Head Gasket Failure at 136K Miles

I have to say it. LS swap. Last car I had blow a head gasket was a 2.2 turbo Dodge in the Mid 90s. I would not put that kind of money in a car that old either. If I had to put the much in the Malibu, I would take it outback and burn it.

Caprice can run it. It really likes it but in Washington it is hard to find. The nearest station that has it by me is over 40 miles aways.

    Mixing oil

Sorry to hear about your wife. I can't imagine the van the gets run too hard. I wouldn't worry about it. I would run it a full year or another 3000ish miles. I just do it about once a year in the Trans Am but that is usually about 2000 miles.

"You don't see those on the road much anymore"

With the little to no rust we have here, I'm amazed at what I see driving around here. I see a Citation and an AMC Hornet daily.

GM 3.8 Series I top end oil leaks

Valve cover gaskets are common, those years the intake will leak but not like the newer ones. Having said that at that age it maybe time to replace the valve cover and intake gaskets.
