    Any nonrepeat Hybrid Buyers?

I’d always been “for” Hyundai…worked in a big multi group dealer along side Hyundai guys and when they introduced whatever body styles came in about 2011 I thought they’d really turned a corner. We bought a 2013 Santa Fe new, it had some issues but ended up having to get rid of it real quick...

    Mazda TSB: 2.5L with CD & 6AT… 3, 6, CX-5, CX-30 owners get in here

just wondered from your perspective, especially since you have knowledge of these cylinder deactivation trans / torque converter failures and I’ve yet to hear about that personally. I’m not up on any car sites besides this one… I purposely bought my 6 when they still had normal 4 cylinders...

How are the Mazda turbo cars and SUVs holding up?

    Intermittent Stalling Issue

If I remember right Subarus were occasionally plagued by lazy responding oxygen (or did they call them air/fuel?) sensors. But I think those problems were with older models than you’re working on.

Tech vs service writer - pay etc

Agree somewhat. Team system has its pros and cons. It’s nice to have a guy who’s great at chasing down problems and him/her not be stressed about making sure they’re making enough labor time but instead just be focused on figuring out the problem. It’s hard if not impossible to cover your time...

    Intermittent Stalling Issue

I worked at a Subaru shop until 2013. I’m no Subaru expert but we had to clean the throttle plates a lot extremely low idling and stalling when they went throttle by wire. I think you did good.

Tell me your tricks and fixes for squeaky windshield wipers

I had just put on some trico something or others that clearanced out at advanced a year or so ago. They were high-er end wipers but chatter and make horrible noise. Thought I’d never remedy it (though I hadn’t tried yet) so on a recent rock auto order I added some. Some time went by and I...

Tech vs service writer - pay etc

Around me, writers make alot more money but I’m only experienced in shops that are setup as big teams. I’m out of the dealer game since 2013 but did approach my old friend there who said I’d easily be in 6 figures now. I didn’t know a writer that didn’t make 6 figures then in 2013. I ran into...

2001 Dodge Ram 1500 3.9L - Question on Spark Plugs

Fixed many a Chrysler Jeep Ram of that era by replacing whatever customers threw in their engines with the factory copper plugs. Not sure if the customer / other shop switched to platinum / iridium / etc of the wrong part number / cross referenced them wrong, or if Chryslers really just don’t...

Auto apply parking brake necessary ?

I only use parking brake when parked on a slope. I’m always worried with it being applied to hot rotors (don’t want it warping my rotors). My Mazda cycles the electric parking brake on a schedule just to keep it working and free (every 1k miles I think I read somewhere?).

    Why Hybrid?

This was sort of my expectation. In my area, if I’m not doing about 80 on the open highway, I’m causing road rage. Many drive faster than me. I cruise about 75-80 regularly and figured the hybrids will be needing the ICE assistance, thus limiting fuel mileage to being not much better than a...

    Why Hybrid?

I’d like some constructive conversation about a hybrid for my situation, as I don’t see it being a good choice but maybe I’m just uniformed. 50-60 miles a day commuting without any stop and go, just cruising back road and highway. Occasional in town use for kids activities, but mainly a...

    2024 Toyota Tacoma SR5 4WD

It’s so weird hearing these new trucks drive by in the neighborhood while waiting for school pick up or out on a walk. A new Tacoma just cruised by me the other day, just doesn’t sound right putting along a 4 cylinder pick up. Newer 1/2 tons too…chevys with their 4 cylinder putting and...

Pentastar 3.6 oil cooler failure. What really causes or exacerbates it?

Maybe, I haven’t had one to repeat the job yet personally. We have a shop of 20+ guys servicing hundreds of them so I just see the trash on the work benches sometimes. The quality of the Dormans isn’t confidence inspiring though. They come packaged and protected well but the seals don’t fit...

Pentastar 3.6 oil cooler failure. What really causes or exacerbates it?

We’ve used the Dormans off and on for awhile now. Many of them are leaking and being replaced again now. Severe service / highly abused fleet, but still…not much better than oem in our experience.

Jeep WJ, Slow, hunting idle and intermittent hard starting.

What’s throttle position read? Do you have data? They like to fail. You can set the timing on them as well, they fall out of timing slowly, we used to always set it while doing plugs. Some had heat soak problems when the intake / exhaust manifolds would heat up the injectors and they...

    We Bought a 2024 Odyssey

I’m only at 12k on ours but hate the shutter flutter sounds and feeling when it deactivates 3…hate to think even more that we start using oil but not notice till out of warranty. My wife even notices it, but tried not to say anything as she thought she’d be opening a can of worms that’d never...
