Insurance / Body Shop Dilemma after Wreck

Yes. First one I picked but it is on their list of shops. Second I made them provide me a list of their least problematic shops and I picked based on recent google reviews since they wouldn’t pick for me. I kind of know someone (neighbor) who runs a body shop his whole career (now owns his...

Insurance / Body Shop Dilemma after Wreck

So long story but I’ll be as concise as I can. Got rear ended in June. Person has Safeco. I have liberty. Sister companies. Body shop I’ve used before and has a good reputation did work. Put a bumper on it. Bumper fit sucked (aftermarket) and it’d literally had cut a wash mit it was so...

    2005 Jeep Wrangler steering issue

Your current alignment doesn’t include a caster measurement. When diagnosing the pull, it’d help to know. Caster usually causes problems with wheel returning to center, wandering on the highway…but if extreme enough it could cause issues. I have a caster issue in my work van that I’m not willing...

    2005 Jeep Wrangler steering issue

It’s not just an off center steering wheel trying to center itself (making it feel like it’s going right)? You only have total toe adjustment and steering center adjustment. You cannot adjust left and right side toe individually. You could have caster issues but that usually only noticeable...

Has Mazda become a no go due to cylinder deactivation?

Where do you find this info? Someone came here and said that before, but nobody seems to believe it. I don’t lean one way or the other (at least pertaining to deactivation trashing the torque converters). But I do believe deactivation on a 4cylinder is ridiculous. Way too many complications...

New Dorman oil filter housing/oil cooler installed on 2014 Durango

Our doorman’s aren’t lasting, but it’s one of the most abused fleets in the country. It’s likely just the seals leaking, we’ve had some of the orange filter caps leak, but the repair is usually just replacing the whole assembly as we don’t stock seals as of yet. When we take them apart the seals...

    Hyundai Palisade common problems?

It’s not awd all the time, it decides to use rear wheels as slippage is noticed through a clutch on the rear differential I believe. I didn’t study the system much at all. And I think ours was Korean made. Unsure if any are made here, but this was back at the height of covid when people came...

    Hyundai Palisade common problems?

I had one. For a year. It was in and out of the shop for that entire year. For about 6 months of that year I was battling Hyundai to buy it back. I still didn’t keep it out of the shop for those 6 months as a didn’t believe I could get the to buy it back and I wanted it fixed. Much of the time...

2007 Dodge Grand Caravan 3.3 serpentine belt/tensioner/idler pulley

You take the pulley off first, then push it further back onto the water pump as it fits right over the water pump impeller (flange?). Then you can remove the 10mm water pump bolts, knock it loose, then push the engine over using 2x4 on the ac compressor and a pry bar up in the frame there. One...

    2025 1500 Ram SST Issues

I’ve been trying to keep up with this thread…partially for the humor, partially to see where this goes…but geeze. “Numerous” repairs before purchase could’ve been simple flash updates as required before sale of a new vehicle, accessories, an oil change, etc. Ask exactly what the repairs were...

Paralyzed by choices: CR-V, Venza or CX-5?

This is only for the first couple of years of cylinder deactivation cars. I completely agree that I think it’s overkill and way too much complication for what it’s worth…BUT I also haven’t seen the internet blowing up that Mazdas are full of cylinder deactivation problems. I actually thought...

Axle splines stuck in the knuckle

Can you put the knuckle back onto the lower ball joint? Some of your efforts may be being lessened by the whole assembly being free like that. Once you get the splines free and moving then you can remove the knuckle from the lower ball joint again.

Oil of Wintergreen- to loosen rusted bolts?

One penetrant we used at a dealer I was at had a wintergreen smell. It may have been a wurth product but just guessing, it’s been years.

    Rubber expansion freeze plug

I kept a rubber one in my glove box for my older mustang. I had put a new block / engine in it and it kept spitting one particular plug out, so instead of being stranded at the track every time I’d slip the rubber one in it and I was good to get home and get it somewhere I could replace it. I...

    Anyone own/drive a newer Ford Transit 350?

I drive a 2016 250 for work. It’s not terrible as far as work vans go. I think our ram promasters are more comfortable, but definitely less reliable, and I prefer the way a rear drive acts and handles vs a front drive promaster. I have seen some negatives as far as maintenance goes on...

    Auto Technician Compensation

I suggest before you have a family or get “too old,” get a government job. I left 11 years at a dealership / 1 year independent shop to a government fleet…right before my first kid. I can’t imagine working real world (mechanic) having a family. Now I only work 8 hours, have better benefits than...

2006 Honda Accord EX V6 excessive brake dust on one wheel.

Your brake will get hot if the caliper is sticking, just be sure it’s not due to the brake cable sticking before just throwing a caliper or calipers at it or you’ll have the same issue.

2006 Honda Accord EX V6 excessive brake dust on one wheel.

Not uncommon for that generation to need rear calipers from time to time. I think I needed 2 sets in my 150k miles of ownership of mine (bought with 100k on it). Also needed a parking brake cable once. You'll have to diagnose if it’s a brake cable binding or the caliper itself then make the...
