New Walmart 24F battery -2 yr warranty

Besides age, the state of charge, temperature of the battery, how long it's been since last driven, and how good of a connection your battery tester has, all have effects on what these modern battery testers will read as the CCA and internal resistance of a battery. These modern battery testers...

Which HK engines/years are affected by bad engines?

Op, my niece had one of those. The knock sensor went bad at 86 K miles and that caused it to run so lean that it destroyed the engine. The dealer replaced it for free and told her the engine that failed was not the original. A previous owner had one already replaced in it. Less than a year...

    Protection from rodents 🐿🐁🛡🗡

I have a folded up paper towel on both sides of the engine bay, and put a couple drops of McCormick peppermint oil that grocery stores sell, on each paper towel when I add windshield washer fluid, and also a couple drops in a few other areas in the engine bay. The Peppermint use to come with a...

    Confessions of a Recovering Thickie

LSJ said in a recent YT video that oils thicker than manufacturers recomendation may be too thick for the piston rings to properly remove it from the cylinder-walls. That can result in enough oil getting into the combustion to cause problems such as fouled spark-plugs, damaged catalytic...

Can a civilian aircraft in distress land at a military airport?

FYI, some military bases ( even in the US ) have special weapons areas, and they are guarded by armed personnel with orders to shoot anyone unauthorized who enters said areas. So, if one were ever to land at a military airport without communications, it would be wise to stay in the aircraft...

Poor little CVT! Change your fluid!

I would have had the lad do at least half the work of the first change, and increased his share of the work with each additiinal change. Give a man a fish vs teach him to fish. When I first started working on cars, my cousin who knew more about them then I, said to me, " I won't do the job for...

    Impressive dead stick landing

I liked the well coordinated low speed low altitude turn at the tree. Just the right amounts of controls and very nicely done. I can hear that stall whistle going off just like it should with a minimum energy landing like that. Some people have the feal of the aircraft, and then there are those...

    Printable oil change reminder stickers?

I keep a notebook with tabs for every section of maintance, so I have a record of date and miles of every maintance. Also I watch when the maintance minder drops to 20 % and do the oc as soon as I can after it hits 20%. No need for stickers.

Old Soviet Venus Probe is Crashing Back to Earth 5/10/2025

It was designed to withstand the temperatures of Venus, so re-entering earth atmosphere will not cause it to fall apart. Whererver it comes down, any bad material on it will only be Scattered by the impact force which still could be significant contamination of an area if it has radioactive...

Help me "over think" this as many of us here like to do - Mixing 0W-20 with 15W-50 to achieve close to 5W-30

First, never mix different brands of oil. There are 4 companies that make the additives, and different oil companies may be using different additive packages in the oil, and some additive packages don't work well together. Second, the oil molecules will still change from a liquid to a wax at...

Is SJ dated oil still good?

Actually, LSJ pointed out that one of the additives that settles out of old oil and no longer works is for not foaming up. A sump full of bubbles is not a good oil, even for an outdoor air cooled engine. I would use it for chain lube of a chainsaw, and nothing else.

Coast Guard Plans to Remove ATONS (buoys, etc.)

Nope, it was GPS. Maybe back then, the number of satalites was just enough, but required shutdown for some things. Being war targets as mentioned was also on my mind.

Coast Guard Plans to Remove ATONS (buoys, etc.)

Are GPS systems no longer shutdown somedays for maintance and calibration? I rember years ago they were. Once I notified a friend who flew a small aircraft that the GPS was scheduled to have an outage day, and be sure to bring maps and plan for it to not be available on a flight he was doing...

Best additive to prevent fuel gumming up the carb?

WD40 evaporates away but leaves behind a thin film that prevents corrosion. It's actually very good stuff. Many mistake WD40 for an oil. IT'S NOT AN OIL.

Best additive to prevent fuel gumming up the carb?

Empty the tank, put truefuel in the tank, run that out until the engine stops, blast the intake side of the carb with WD40 and be sure to get it on every small hole near the intake so you get the very small hole for the bowl breather, and spray a lot around the center tube and pin valve that...
