I have a 1978 JD950 with about 2200 hours on it.
I’ve run 5w40, 15w40, 10w30, and now 0w40.
You’ll be fine with 15w40 in your climate, I run the 0w40 & 5w40 due to the winter temperatures for snow blowing/snow plowing.
Put the winter tires and the cold front cover on the diesel Ram this afternoon.
Greased the front drive shaft cardan joint zerk while it was in the air, and I could spin the wheels to line it up.
I just depth gauged the 265/50R20 Michelin Defender LTX M/S on the wife’s Durango after a pressure check this morning. They have 72,427 miles on them and all have 8/32” left on them. They were install on 11/20/2021, so almost three years to the day. The might go 80k-90k possibly.
I reached out...
Dang that’s crazy, I thought my LX188 was bad but I was able to get it off way easier than that a couple years ago when I switched to ag. tires.
Mine had a good amount of rust, once I was able to get it off I used scotch brite pad to the clean/polish the shaft then coated it with synthetic...
Took me about 30-40 minutes, I could have been worse I guess. Hardest part was alignment of the pin into the bracket while trying to start the bolt. Took me a couple of attempts, the Gates tensioner was heavier than the Dayco that came off. The belt did drop down once but I was able to push it...
Replacing serpentine belt tensioner on the Ram tonight, just began squeaking. Had a new Gates one on the shelf, belt was just replaced within the last 6k miles in September and looked good so left it on.
Ordered the 24” Craftsman belt tensioner tool which made it easier, didn’t have to remove...
That price is on par with its competitors, 5w40 T6 and VPBE. Usually with $2-$3 difference near me. It’s good oil, I’ve ran it and did a UOA years ago in my Cummins. Its just not on the Ford approved list for 6.7L Powerstrokes as the Phosphorus is lower than Ford requires.
Best when on...
For my truck yes, I’ve been running winter tires for the past thirteen years. Snowmobiling in the UP I’ve encountered some crappy conditions getting to/from with the trailer in tow.
Getting to work before the roads are plowed/salted, and being in the country they drift badly on occasion...
You're welcome.
The cold crank number is legit (6260 vs. 6300) when compared to Rotella T6 5w40, although I suspect the pour point is possibly a bit lower seeing that some 15w40's pour in that temp. range +/- a few degrees.
@53' Stude
I received this back from Warren Oil Company today regarding the Providence 5w40 HDEO sold at Rural King after my request.
Characteristics are identical to their Warren Lubrigard 5w40 HDEO offering.
I ran skinny snow tires for six years during the winter months. LT235/80R17 “E” Rated @ 3000lbs in place of LT265/70R17 “E” Rated @ 3195lbs without issue.
