Why are some OEM parts only as remanufactured?

That's likely to change. Toyota seems to be moving away from refusing to buy or make cheap parts.

    New Trucks Gas

The 2nd Gen 2.7 Turbo seems to have been less reliable than the first gen. The '15-'17 well cared for seemed to be solid. Also the 6R80 Trans was really well sorted.

    New Trucks Gas

2009-2010 F150 - 4.6L 2V. First Gen Nissan Titan Both of those are likely to be good with a good service history and reasonable mileage.

USA Today - Over 1.4 million Honda, Acura vehicles subject of US probe over potential engine failure

Since it appears to only affect the engines built in the USA and not Japan, I wouldn't think it's an engineering issue. I wonder if the rod bearings are from the same supplier?

Vehicle Sighting - '90s Olds Wagon

I was poking fun of all those $90,000 5.5' Limited and Platinum Trucks I see around here. "Put it in the rear seat, I don't want to scratch the bed". I do have a ratty old F1 with a 6.5' bed down on the farm. I think you had to get an F2 to get a longbed then.

Yes, but those are likely luxury cars with beds.

What viscosity do you end up with when you mix?

And if you mix Castrol Syntec 5W-20 SM (9.1 CSt) with the 5W-30 (9.4 cSt)... Of course at that point does it really matter.

Maintenance logs... How do you keep track of services?

I use a fax / scanner app for receipts (I end up with a cloud file, phone file and pc file and it's very easy to forward them via email or fax) snd they get auto correlated in a car file by upload date.. For actual service log I simply use the free log books from a local autoparts store and...

    Overfilling Fuel Tank

"Topping off" is filling to 100% of nominal capacity (ie until the top of the filler neck or the overflow). I think most know that's not a good idea.

Vehicle Sighting - '90s Olds Wagon

Both could be correct as far as consumer sales. One was a passenger car and the other a light truck by classification. On the fleet side the 1991 Ford Police Interceptor 351 had a carburetor as well.

Bucket list car (for the commoner)

2011 GT500 Performance Package Red (Stripe Delete Option) 9,000 mi - $30,000.00 It's only 550 bhp, but it's the lightest year modern GT500 and handles way better than the iron block cars.It was absolutely unmolested and immaculate. I think he got a pretty good deal on his bucket list car...

I'm starting to think the lore of the dreaded Nissan/Infiniti CVT woes are a bit exaggerated

I was thinking I saw a statement about metal contamination in the Honda CVT that were failing very early a few years back. The guys at Toyota tell me they made them change the wash and inspection procedure on the new engine as the old procedures were not working. I would assume that would be...

    Overfilling Fuel Tank

That's what I'm doing. I just run it on high until it clicks the first time so it doesn't take so long.

    Overfilling Fuel Tank

I just hate the 10% variation when it cuts off on high vs the 2% on low. It really messes with my OCD. I was hoping the low setting would still shut off in time (I know better than to top it off).

I'm starting to think the lore of the dreaded Nissan/Infiniti CVT woes are a bit exaggerated

Wasn't that the same issue that Toyota had with their new Truck Engine? Machining debris?

I'm starting to think the lore of the dreaded Nissan/Infiniti CVT woes are a bit exaggerated

I wonder how the occasional JATCO in a Sentra or Versa makes it past 200,000 mi with 100,000 mi fluid changes? Is it just light throttle leaving stops?

    From Toyota to Stellantis.

1968 with 1969 JL2 Hood. If it's modified who knows. Stock most weighed 3400+ lb (1550 kg) and had the 327/210 (5.4L / 140 net bhp). Honestly not much that won't outrun them today. A lot of those old cars will fool you though. The sensations and smiles per mile make them feel like they make a...
