    Oil Change Interval Chart

If you do 5,000 mi oci on your highway car why wouldn't you do 1500 mi oci on your short trip car?

    Oil Change Interval Chart

What debate? The question is what the source is. You either know or you dont. volk06 seemed to be inferring that it might be a Bob Winters' chart but so far hasn't confirmed that was indeed his intent.

    Oil Change Interval Chart

Seriously, this is a Bob Winters' Chart? Do you have any idea if it was intended for a specific Schaeffer's product (7000 perhaps?)

    Seal Conditioners-Mobil 1

Buy three new seals. Measure them.in multiple dimensions. Drop them in containers of each of the following. Supertech Blend Valvoline HM ML Blend Mobil 1 EP Seal containers for 30 days then take them out and measure them. I have a suspicion that that both the VML and M1.EP will be slightly...

    Oil Change Interval Chart

I've seen an oil change interval chart a couple of times. I have no idea of the source. Anyone have an original source on this? 3,000 to 4,000 mi - Frequent trips under 2 mi 4,000 to 6,000 mi - Urban driving 4,000 to 7,000 mi - Typical mixed driving 5,000 to 7,000 mi - Towing 7,000 to 12,000...

What weight oil would you run in a 2011 Ford F150 with 3.5 L gas eco-boost?

Problem is 10W-30 may very well be thinner unless you are talking about the base. M1 HM 10W-30 would be higher viscosity and so would the 5W-30 Euro Oils. Anything with an API ILSAC Starburst likely not, at least any significant amount.

New M1 EP labels ("Triple Action Formula")

I've seem to recall a 21,000+ mi UOA of M1 EP in the UOA Section. As best I recall the oil still had around 3.4 TBN but he had like a 180 mile round trip daily highway commute and put the miles on in around 4 months. I seem to recall 1 qt of add oil about 3,000 mi before the end of the run...

Current list of Dexos 1 Gen 3 Oils

Strange thing is no Mobil 1 is on the GM Dexos 3 list. Just the Mobil Super Synthetic and Mobil Full Synthetic. Guess GM is behind on updating their list.

    Seal Conditioners-Mobil 1

I think people are buying into marketing. They act like HM is something different. It's an oil that meets API specifications. Many blenders may use the absolute minimum seal conditioner needed to meet API requirements in their standard products. Why spend more? Unless it can bring more profit (HM).

Rotella Gas Truck - How Synthetic Is It?

Really only two options in my opinion. Either the additive package tends to darken more with heat or it is holding more contaminants in suspension. Assuming engine condition and operating condition hasn't changed the first is just a curiosity and the second would be desirable as the other option...

    Obsolete grade/type: 5W-20 synthetic?

If you use the same type of base with lower viscosity in the 0W-20 that's true but often the 0W-20 has a higher VI base stock and in that case may have less VII. I've often thought the issue might be a concern about the VII in the few 0W-20 Blends available. I personally would not be afraid to...

What is "severe service" by OEM's and your definition?

Just watch the IOLM on a modern car . 40 minute open track sessions, heavy towing for a significant percentage of the miles,. severe stop and go driving (Like 10 mph average), cold starts every 1 mile etc cause it to reduce the mileage. Slow speed driving is ambiguous. Do you mean 1.2 mph in...

    Please Offer Your Opinions

Overkill = More than necessary. Should be capable of considerably longer drain than specified. We have less experience with the newest version of the engine with lower oil capacity and cylinder deactivation both of which could prove more demanding of oil so a little overkill might not be a bad...

Actually makes sense. Assuming you are talking about a Gas 6.2 or 7.3 SD they have a lower oil capacity and higher fuel consumption rate. I have no experience with the F150 HD.

That's not what you said. You said he was exceeding the manufacturers recommendation. Fords recommendation is to follow the IOLM to a maximum of 10,000 mi or 12 months unless you fail to reset the IOLM or accidentally reset it.

What is "severe service" by OEM's and your definition?

Based on what it takes to get a modern IOLM to reduce OCI it appears to me that it's a case of a misinterpreting what predominantly (or frequent) stop and go driving meant. Having to wait through multiple cycles at each light at the end of each block and never exceeding 15 mph between is much...

    Please Offer Your Opinions

No he isn't. Ford recommends you follow the IOLM and that's going to be 10,000 mi or 12 months in that kind of service based on the 2011+ Fords I've driven.

What is "severe service" by OEM's and your definition?

Many people are that way. Some have been doing 10,000 mi services with M1 for 40+ years and some have been doing 3,000 mi services with whatever meets spec. Obviously works well for both or they would have made changes.
