    Honda K24 Valvetrain, 135K miles

It consumed a lot of oil. Honestly, the dealer told me it was a piston/ring issue and many CR-Vs etc were affected by oil consumption. Honda recalled the excessive ones up to 125k miles and more than a qt in 800 mile consumption. Ours was at a qt in 1000 miles at 125k. It went up dramatically...

    Honda K24 Valvetrain, 135K miles

We bought it at 60k and 5 years old. It was well taken care of and the interior looked like new when it fell apart. I live in northern Maine where we have 6 months of snow and salt. Vehicles rust away here. Does that valve train look bad to you for 175k miles?

    M1 FS vs. M1 ESP

I guess I'm trying to understand the full SAPS oil vs the less additives ESP. Too many rabbit holes to go down here at BITOG!

    Honda K24 Valvetrain, 135K miles

You'll be good! I worked professionally on vehicles (independent garage) for a decade, but that was 15 years ago.

    Honda K24 Valvetrain, 135K miles

Depends on your mechanical knowledge. Mine was in a CR-V. No special tools needed and I did it in my garage with a floor jack. Best part was the integral exhaust manifold so all 4 studs came right out! The head bolts are reusable, and I used FelPro top end gasket set. Only needed the V-TEC...

    Honda K24 Valvetrain, 135K miles

Yes, valves were adjusted at 75k and again at 150k. This thing would carbon foul the plug in cyl 2 every 30k miles. Hard carbon on electrode. Here is a pic of the carbon which held the valve open. It was like a piece of weld spatter on the seat.

    M1 FS vs. M1 ESP

It seems as though ESP is the new darling, is FS Euro not the Top Tier of M1 any longer? I've been running FS 0/5W-40 in my Pentastar 3.6 and wife's Toyota 2.7 1AR Neither engine consumes any appreciable oil, and I run 5k OCI on the Pentastar and 6.5k in the Toyota changing filters every other...

    Honda K24 Valvetrain, 135K miles

This was my 2010 K24 at 180K miles. 3qts/5k consumption. Burned exhaust valve due to carbon. I was at the point of just dumping in whatever oil and changing the filter every 6 months. Ironically, a new valve and valve guide seals stopped the oil consumption. Was down to ½qt/5k OCI...

Best 2 stroke oil for small old outboards premix

It's funny, I've always run the old '56 on 16:1. And I've yet to have a plug foul, crazy..... The gas lasts at least 4 years in the metal tank with that much oil in it too. I'd bet longer than 4 year actually

Mobil 1 advanced vs Mobil 1 extended new truck

Chrysler Pentastar with 76k miles. Unknown oci before I bought it at 1 year old and 30k miles. Since then it's had 5k oci and M1 5w-40 FS Euro. All 6 lobes on this cam and 4 out of 6 on another looked like this. Rollers had the same texture.

Best 2 stroke oil for small old outboards premix

I have a couple of old Evinrude outboards. One is a 1956 7.5HP and the other is a 1974 15HP. They don't get used many hours every year, and I've always mixed the 1956 to 16:1 (ratio stated for those pre-needle bearing years) it only has bushings and no needle bearings. Just bought the 1974 and...

What tends to go bad first on an engine?

Well if it's a 5 year old Dodge then it may eat a cam (or 2, or 3 or 4) before 100k Or if it's a 10 year old Honda it may eat a valve due to excess oil consumption at 180k If it's a 65 year old Ford you may just pull the engine to freshen it up and some paint. These are just my own...
