    2nd Gen Ford Fusion

Floor it in the test drive and look for a sloppy 2-3 shift. Lock to lock on the electric steering and listen for noises. Some hybrids had a bearing in the transmission that would make noise and go bad. But I think the hybrid is generally reliable. 2.5 is a great engine. IMO, a great...

    Wheel Bearing 2007 CRV

I think you replaced the wrong side... or maybe both sides were bad. Generally, when you are turning left, you are unweighting the left side and if the bad bearing is on the left side, the noise will go away. One thing that worked for me is feeling the spring for vibrations while spinning the...

    Honda HEVF e-CVT fluid

They moved the electric motors side-by-side, rather than in line. Except in the Civic, where they kept them in line. I think the motors are slightly changed as well. The CR-V has two clutches (don't know if that's new). Accord and Civic still have one. They added fake shifts, but I imagine...

    Honda HEVF e-CVT fluid

Noticed that Honda has a new transmission fluid that is specifically for their latest hybrids: Honda HEVF Type 1.0. Part number 08200-9022. Any idea what's in this stuff? My hybrid is a 2019, so I am supposed to use DW-1. I just wondered how this new fluid might be better or if it could even...

    OCI for 2004 Volvo S40

heck, we don't even know if it's a 2004 (mitsubishi) or a 2004.5 (ford) Volvo

    Ford Flex steering problem.

Forscan may be helpful for replacing the rack. I think if you match part numbers exactly, you may not need it. I believe I didn't need it for the BBB rack; don't remember about the Fusion that I did the junkyard rack in. Is there an issue with getting Forscan licenses due to the Ukraine conflict?

    Ford Flex steering problem.

I assume no noises? I had to replace racks on a 2013 Fusion and a 2013 Escape. Both threw codes, although only occasionally. The Fusion made noise. The Escape occasionally became really hard to steer. Because of this, I feel like the electric steering on Fords was a little iffy in this time...

Changed out sparkplugs in Ford Vulcan V-6

I like the drippy Duratec better than the Vulcan!

Replace electric rack and pinion on a 2005 Toyota Prius?

On my son's Prius - which I believe is also a 2005 - the local shop wouldn't do an alignment on it because the tie rod adjustment was too rusted. So we got inner and outer tie rods from Rockauto and switched them out. It was a much easier job than a rack replacement, and tie rods are cheap...

Changed out sparkplugs in Ford Vulcan V-6

Until your cam synchronizer goes out or your valve seats recess into the heads... It's a classic engine, I guess, but even the engines that everyone loves have a few flaws.

    2019 Malibu transmission problem

Is the warranty administered by a third party? The dealer might not be as motivated to decline the repair if it's a third party who is actually paying for the work.

    2019 Malibu transmission problem

You need to read and understand the details of the warranty. Sounds like you will have to take it back to the "bad" dealer for them to diagnose. A failure like this is IMO exactly what the warranty is supposed to cover. So I wouldn't worry about it until the "bad" dealer tries to deny the claim.

What are the terms of the warranty, and does the car fall within them?

2007 Ford Fusion Turned 320K Today

You should use Kirkland oil and Costco gas, and also get one of those 1/4 lb plus hot dogs and a rotisserie chicken

Replace electric rack and pinion on a 2005 Toyota Prius?

Yeah, $75 for an electric rack sounds like a deal if you don't have to pick it. I don't think these go bad very often. I have replaced two Ford electric racks, one was $35 and I had to pick it. The other was $300 iirc and it was a BBB. Not impressed by the quality, but it's been working fine...

Rental car review - 2025 Toyota Camry SE Hybrid - middling fuel economy

I just reserved a "full sized" car in San Diego in April (USMC graduation!) from Budget. They said Camry or similar. Hope it's the Camry; I love hybrids.

Bought a very high miles 2019 Honda Accord Hybrid

Warmer weather brought my first 40+ mpg tank. 42.3 calculated, 40.7 indicated. You can see the previous fill-ups weren't so good! If I can average 40mpg, I'll be happy.

Changed out sparkplugs in Ford Vulcan V-6

Another fun fact is my 2.3 "Lima" Ranger is both dual-spark and wasted spark. It has two coil packs. Each pack has two coils. One pack fires the four plugs on the intake side of the engine and one pack fires the four plugs on the exhaust side. I think this is kind of overkill, but I suppose it...

What should I do with ten quarts of M1 Euro 0w40?

This one was a six-speed and may have been a little sportier suspension - it came with the 17" wheels and the (fairly rare) side skirts. I thought it was a decent handling car, mine had Bilstein B4 (Touring) struts and shocks. Most of my driving is just dull commuting, but I did get it on...

What should I do with ten quarts of M1 Euro 0w40?

No, I sold it to a local salvage yard. I think I got about $200... and I paid a towing company $150 after the wreck, so I barely came out ahead, lol.
