    Mercon question

After looking at a few options, which as surprising as it is, nothing is affordable in this country. Plain Jane Dex/Merc is 10$ a litre, Maxlife is 12$/L at Cambodian Tire, 10$/L at Walmart (I think that price came down a bit). So my other option, which I will try is my go to, Co-op ATF SL...

    LED Lighting

Cannot add much but I recently upgraded the quad headlight bulbs in my 2017 Ram 3500. Used Sylvania high and lows. Expensive and are essentially a drop in fit (high beams required extended dust caps). They really could go in one way so couldn't index. They reach out a bit further than the...

What kind of 2 cycle oil is gold? Photo attached.

I have some un-dyed 2 stroke oil. I thought it was a bit odd but looking at it's application, this product was more aimed at injection on performance sleds. It wasn't really aimed at us slobs using it for premix.

    Post your latest HDEO change

Worked on my 2017 Ram 3500 6.7. 171,000km on the clock and 24,000km on the oil. I had planned to go further but in reality it's hard to make time for much of anything. Out was Co-op DMO semi synthetic 10w30 and a Napa Gold filter. In went a garbled mix to clear some stuff out. 8 litres of...

What are you working on today?

Forgot to add, also did some maintenance on the 3500. Oil change, rear fuel filter, greased the cardan, spill and fill of the PS reservoir and tossed in some Sylvania LED low beams.

What are you working on today?

Worked on my daughters 2004 Escape. Wanted to investigate the P0446 before ordering a new vent valve. Glad I did as the wires were broke off right at the connector. Not sure when I can run down to Napa for a new connector so I learned how to de-pin it in efforts or adding new wire segments...

What are you doing right now?

Helped my wife and her crew host a cattle sorting event. Was a busy but fun day. My 16 year old was able to compete and had a great time. The weather was a bit warmer than expected so I was able to burn a few miles in the fresh powder. As well we have a homemade lasagna in the oven...

    Mercon question

@D60 thats what I thought but I never owned a ford before and never gave a second thought into their specs. I subjectively looked at it through the lense of WS and Dex 6. The newer fluids were lower viscosity and backwards compatible.

    Mercon question

Thanks gents, appreciate your input as always. So, perhaps it's how I interpreted the manual in regards to Mercon V. Attached is the manual excerpt. @Snagglefoot, that fluid is exactly what I looked at. There some other versions I am going to look at as well.

What are you working on today?

Picked up a decent 2004 Ford Escape for another runabout but essentially a first vehicle for my 16 year old daughter. It's got some rust out back but pretty decent with 227,000km. V6 and 4spd auto. Runs and drives great and price was decent as we bought it from some friends. Today I aired up...

    Mercon question

Alright gents, I'm not up on any Ford spec'd fluids. We picked up a 2004 Ford Escape from some friends, a nice starter vehicle for our daughter. Looks like it has the CD4E transmission. Now, the manual calls for the old Mercon fluid, forbades the use of Mercon V. I read that the early Mercon...

What are you doing right now?

With the recent temperature swing, we are having frost issues. One of the watering bowls froze up. Needed a steam truck out to thaw the line. Heat tape down the 3 or so inch conduit wasn't enough and it froze quite far down. We adjusted the heat tape lower so hopefully it holds. A good...

What are you doing right now?

-13f?? That's sledding weather you young rapscallions!!! It's a balmy -13c with a healthy wind and -18 windchill. Tomorrow isn't much better but my buddy will swing by and we are going to fire up the sleds and put some miles on. My oldest daughter is finishing up the last of her school...

Do automatic transmissions need to warm up?

The 4L60E in my 2006 Trailblazer does not bad cold. But cold for instance was -37c a few days ago. I take it easy for a few miles before I hit the highway. Biggest thing is the low temperature will keep lockup from working. It's still sporting some Amsoil and Maxlife low viscosity ATF that I...

How often to change oil on snow blower?

I had an AYP built Poulan blower with the LCT. Loud but a great engine. I bought it in the fall of 2013 and it blew the gear box around 2020. I used it very hard as it was the primary way to clear snow on my 10 acres. Would run it 3 to 4 hours at a time. I think it asked for every 50 hours...

    Voltaren medicine - production origin?

Made in Canada? That's odd, we are not allowed to manufacture anything up in these parts. Causes too much greenhouse gas.

    RAM truck loaner vehicle

The Mach e I cruise in the summer is based around some God awful big screen tablet. It's truly a great way to add complexity to what could be a simple system. It does a fantastic job of taking your eyes and concentration off the road. There is no feedback such as a button or something to...

What are you working on today?

Just some simple odds and ends. My wife took a horse to the University Veterinary College. Borrowed a nice aluminum 2 horse trailer. So upon return, I powerwashed the truck and trailer as it was coated in salt and road grime. Then, did some reading on this site about wiper blade chatter...

    Cold PS Noise

I suggest finding an appropriate low viscosity or synthetic fluid. My Trailblazer was horrendous during cold starts. Usually past that -15/20c mark it would honky and whine. I lived with it for about 6 years. Finally replaced it with some Amsoil synthetic ATF I had, which was eventually...

6.7 Cummins erratic tick near turbo/egr cooler

I think it was more of a refinement. The Duramax and Powerstroke engines are much quieter and more refined than the old B series based engine.
