What are you working on today?

Hooked up the 6 horse last night and parked it by the barn to load up. Today, 2 hours before we are slated to pull out of the yard, notice the passenger front tire is half flat. Able to hold air long enough to get me to town and sitting in the tire shop getting it patched. It's been a good...

What are you working on today?

And all i accomplished was getting the rear driver side brake done on the beater Sunfire. Works pretty slick now! This weekend I will do the other side, scan for codes and check how the thermostat and O2 sensors are working.

What are you eating right now?

Made ribs again tonight. I didn't hook up the gas grill to a fresh tank so I used it as an excuse to use the little Napoleon charcoal kettle that we got. I'm new to charcoal so I used it to finish the ribs off. Very tasty!

    Drum brake question

@D60 Thanks for the link to that tool, we shall see how it all works tomorrow evening. Napa says they hardware kit should be in tomorrow and now my put of town trip for work has been canceled as the northern part of Saskatchewan is on fire.

post your latest transmission lubricant change.

I did a fluid exchange on my beater 2002 Sunfire with the 4 speed auto. Its 270,000 km +. Seeing as it seemed to shift fine and it's a low cost beater, I was not going to do a pan drop and filter change. Just not worth the hassle. I couldn't find exactly which cooler line was input or...

What are you working on today?

@53' Stude the shoes had plenty of meat left on them and other than chipping on the edges from removing the drum, Id day they were **** near new. Its too bad the wheel cylinder was leaking as otherwise they would have been reused. I picked up new shoes at Napa and should have the hardware in...

    Drum brake question

Thanks again guys, much appreciated. As for the jackstands, I chirp but I have a few different sizes, none which are small enough for the car. I use blocks and chalks to keep the car held and safe. My Jack is used to manipulate the rear suspension and I had it set where I like it, level. I...

    Drum brake question

Further digging, they are just another version of a shoe retaining spring. Mine obviously had come loose due to the pin corroding.

    Drum brake question

Edit, they might actually be the retaining springs for the shoes. The pins do not have the pinching where the retainer would clock 90 degrees to lock the spring in.

    Drum brake question

The jackstands, well I live dangerously.... In loose sand or gravel, the lightest pressure on the brake pedal caused lockup on the driver side drum. It is an ABS equipped vehicle.

    Drum brake question

It was all the time that the drum was locking. I am not heavy on the brakes so it was not an issue on the asphalt but very prevalent on rhe loose sand and gravel.

    Drum brake question

Ok, just to clarify an issue I ran into on the rear drums on my 2002 beater Sunfire. Caveat, my Jack is in use so I cannot tear down the other side to look. I am quite new at drums. The driver side rear brake was locking up with little effort. I tore it down and a couple of the shoe...

What are you working on today?

So, I got some work done on the Sunfire beater. New headlights in, another drain and fill of the PS reservoir and finally some brake work. I was able to knock the drums off, starting on passenger side. All looked good, wheel cylinder not seized and everything was cleaned and adjusted. I used...

What are you working on today?

Thanks @D60 I might just do that. I am hoping to get some time today and finally get the drums off. They are some stuck. As well, it looks like you essentially have to strip the brakes down anways to get the wheel cylinders out.

What are you working on today?

I worked on my 2002 Pontiac Sunfire rez rocket today. Its a 270,000km beater we got for cheap. Today I put in some new plugs as the previous owner, who likely was one of many, said they needed to be done. I'm not sure when if ever they were done.... two of the four were quite cooked to say...

What are you doing right now?

Got a majority of the garden planted. Potatoes, beets, beans, peas and carrots. I have to hit the greenhouse for some tomatoes, strawberries and whatever else jumps out.

    New tool thread

Speaking about drum brakes...... I should do an inspection of the trailer brakes on our horse trailers. Then I have to check the rear drums on my beater 2002 Sunfire. One locks up really easily, causing the ABS to kick in.

What are you working on today?

The new install tool works like a charm. The hub went in and the whole thing is back together and running smooth.

What are you working on today?

Went to Napa to exchange the Escape's wheel bearing. As luck would have it, they now had the SKF bearing and hub in stock. I paid the difference and walked away. She went into the freezer for a bit and slid into the hub like butter with that install tool. I'll let if warm up for a bit and...

What are you working on today?

@clinebarger that's what I did. I use an impact socket and hammer to knock the hub out. It's just the easiest way.
