This is absolutely true. A high efficiency fuel water separator unit will help remove most of the water content from your diesel fuel. Water that isn't removed will cause wear on injectors and can also cause corrosion to form in the fuel system.
If you're interested in an upgrade from that...
Stating the obvious here (hopefully), but all filter companies buy and sell from each other. So even a filter painted with one name brand on it could have been made by a different company...it's called purchased-finished in our world. Maybe it's not as prevalent in the passenger car world, but...
CK-4 & FA-4 oils, which were introduced alongside the 2017 EPA engine models, are up to 60% better at resisting oxidation than the previous CJ-4 category of oils. So yes, the oil chemistries out there today are significantly better than the previous ones. For some perspective, on Cummins...
2-EH is short for 2-Ethylhexanoic Acid. It's an older additive ingredient that is still used in some coolants today and it's known to be aggressive on elastomer components made with silicone...hoses, seals and head gaskets.
Have you considered using an OAT coolant like ES Compleat OAT? Million mile, life-of-the-engine coolant that removes the need for SCA's altogether and you can purely top off as needed. Fully-formulated and fully-warranted by Fleetguard.
Sorry for the slow response here. For your application, probably fine using the Donaldson filter...that engine is old enough that it's not likely using a high pressure common rail fuel system...I think those started coming online later in the 2000's.
For newer engine applications though...
The media is going to vary by filter part number and by engine application. Cummins HD diesel engines actually utilize our proprietary nanofiber media called NanoNet, which is made with polymers instead of glass or cellulose. But it really just depends on the requirements of the engine OEM as to...
Yeah, feel free to send any photos you want to my work email: [email protected] with the details and I'll pass it along to our team for review. Will keep you posted.
Napa is generally trash compared to Fleetguard or the blue guys. For lube filters, D'son is fine, but you really may want to be using Fleetguard for the fuel system. What year is that engine? What part numbers if you don't mind me asking?
Fleetguard LF16166 is what I'm seeing on the cross reference. Looks like we purchase finish this one so I'm not seeing much in the way of performance data, but usually that means we're buying it from the OEM.
I wouldn't disagree. It's kind of complicated with as many parts and applications as we support though. A cross-reference is always the best starting place. We do have a free mobile app that (in my opinion) works better than our desktop site. I'm always glad to hunt down a part number for anyone...
Yes, cut it open...curious as well. I suspect it will have a similar design to the centrifuge units we have for high horsepower equipment: https://cms.fleetguard.com/en_NA/literature/fleetguard-cs41018cs41019-spiratectm-drop-lube-centrifuge/lt36319
All good!
Looks like we do have a valid cross...WF2077. That's a cellulose, non-chemical water filter rated for 1,500 hours or 75,000 miles. If you're looking online, I believe you can order directly from shop.cummins.com if you'd like to take a look there.
Here's our coolants & chemicals...
Totally get that...the convenience of shopping online is part of life now. Only caution I have there is that counterfeit products are rampant with online retailers. I helped one guy out on here a few months back who had purchased some Fleetguard lube filters for a Detroit engine and they were fakes.
The point bonds all over the media are a good indicator that these are genuine. We use an ultra-sonic welding process to bond the multiple layers of our synthetic media grades together instead of using glue.
Where do you normally source from? Supply had been an issue back in 2021 and early half of 2022, but much healthier now. Field reps and our customers tell us that Baldwin has been seriously struggling ever since COVID.
As far as price gouging, we only control our list price...resellers and...
In my humble opinion, if it really mattered, our engineers would have made the change a long time ago. Doesn't seem to be a problem on our applications.
For those of you spending ~$2,500 a year on filters and or coolant to maintain trucks or equipment, you're eligible for discounted pricing on Fleetguard...just a heads up. You can message me for more details.
If you have a Cummins engine, there's really no reason to be using anything other than...
