    Mobil 1 FS 0w40 vs 5w40 vs 5w50 vs 15w50 in a modified LT4 in warmer climate??

I’m not 100% sure on what you’re asking. The lower temp thermostat just allows the coolant to flow sooner. Everything still works the same. It just gives more of a buffer when temps are elevated from beating on the car. Instead of being nearly 200* already and climbing… I’ve got that 20*...

    Mobil 1 FS 0w40 vs 5w40 vs 5w50 vs 15w50 in a modified LT4 in warmer climate??

That’s the main reason I’m not fighting the higher coolant/oil temps. In summer weather and with spirited driving, temps were obviously higher with the factory 195* stat or whatever it is. I ran the same 160* stat on both my C7Z and the V with no issues at the recommendation of the shop.

    Mobil 1 FS 0w40 vs 5w40 vs 5w50 vs 15w50 in a modified LT4 in warmer climate??

Great to hear! If it worked that well for you… I imagine it’ll work just as well for me. Can’t beat the fact it’s readily available at the local Walmart also! 😬

    Mobil 1 FS 0w40 vs 5w40 vs 5w50 vs 15w50 in a modified LT4 in warmer climate??

Ok. Yeah… that’s what I was leaning toward. I figured the good flow at startup of the 0w and the protection of the 40 was prob good enough to just switch to the euro Mobil 1 FS 0w40. Basically the same as what I’ve been using but with full SAPS. Only reason the T6 was a consideration is...

    Mobil 1 FS 0w40 vs 5w40 vs 5w50 vs 15w50 in a modified LT4 in warmer climate??

Alright guys, I’m working nights tonight so I figured I’d make a new post to help narrow down the remainder of my options with some more input from you guys. My previous post was in regards to the Mobil 1 0w40 ESP/Supercar Dexos 2 requirement on the ZL1, Z06 and CTS-V for the LT4. From that...

Is GM’s Dexos 2 requirement for the LT4 on the C7 Z06 and CTS-V strictly emissions based?

Solid point. I’ve always run Valvoline VR1 20w50 on my built motor cars. Of course tolerances are different so that’s ok. I’d imagine that would be a little much for a SBE LT4. Who knows though? 15w50 isn’t far off and that’s recommended for track use. Man, y’all have been great to chat with...

Is GM’s Dexos 2 requirement for the LT4 on the C7 Z06 and CTS-V strictly emissions based?

Nice! I’ll have to do some searching for those to see if I can find them. I’m sure they’d both work well. I wonder at what point/value is HTHS enough? At short intervals and without reach crazy high temps, an oil with a HTHS of 3.5 might be just fine. Of course having better never hurts.

Is GM’s Dexos 2 requirement for the LT4 on the C7 Z06 and CTS-V strictly emissions based?

Yeah, I imagine the 15w50 would be just fine. It’s also easy to source which is nice. My oil temps only climb a bit as expected when I’m making pulls with it but then come back down to normal once I’m just cruising again. And you’re right. I’d hate to give up any HP unnecessarily but I’d be ok...

Is GM’s Dexos 2 requirement for the LT4 on the C7 Z06 and CTS-V strictly emissions based?

My oil temps are good. At operating temp, I see 30-31 at warm idle and temps of approx 180*. Car has a 160* stat in it so it stays a little cooler. If I’m hard on it back to back, I might see 200*ish on the oil temp but that’s about it. I agree on the emissions focused oil. That’s the exact...

Is GM’s Dexos 2 requirement for the LT4 on the C7 Z06 and CTS-V strictly emissions based?

You’re right. I messaged him to clarify that when I noticed he mentioned 0w40 FS and that it wasn’t a lower SAPS oil… which the ESP/Supercar is to my knowledge. He was in fact referring to the Euro 0w40 FS with what he said. I’m glad I asked him about that to clarify.

Is GM’s Dexos 2 requirement for the LT4 on the C7 Z06 and CTS-V strictly emissions based?

I asked about the oils you mentioned out of my own curiosity and this was his response…. “The FS 0w40 is what I looked at in our lab. It is good. I have not looked at the others. The 502.00 additive chemistry is desirable as it is not low saps. It is also a cross or comparison to ours as we...

Is GM’s Dexos 2 requirement for the LT4 on the C7 Z06 and CTS-V strictly emissions based?

That’s a valid reason to be bias. Better protection with the same essential weight if that’s true. Nothing wrong with that. Lol! Yeah, you prob understand the details of the report much better than I do. I just know that stuff has been getting some praise and a couple of performance shops have...

Is GM’s Dexos 2 requirement for the LT4 on the C7 Z06 and CTS-V strictly emissions based?

I just asked about the 0w40 Mobil 1 ESP/supercar I’m currently running vs his options he offers. I didn’t ask specifically about the others you mentioned but he didn’t mention them either. He just told me the 0w40 supercar is really good stuff and there would be a marginal benefit to switching...

Is GM’s Dexos 2 requirement for the LT4 on the C7 Z06 and CTS-V strictly emissions based?

I spoke with Dave. Super nice guy! He gave me some good info. He said he considers the Mobil 1 0w40 ESP/supercar to be a great oil. He said his oil is marginally better but at such short OCI as I’m running (1500-2000), I’d be just fine sticking with the Mobil 1. He told me his oil compared to...

Is GM’s Dexos 2 requirement for the LT4 on the C7 Z06 and CTS-V strictly emissions based?

I’ll def do that. What’s his screen name? Excuse my ignorance. Still new and figuring things out around here.

Is GM’s Dexos 2 requirement for the LT4 on the C7 Z06 and CTS-V strictly emissions based?

Man, I’ve never heard of that oil. Looks like some really good stuff! Expensive for sure but I don’t mind paying up for the best protection.

Is GM’s Dexos 2 requirement for the LT4 on the C7 Z06 and CTS-V strictly emissions based?

Man, this is exactly why I’m here. Lol I just don’t know enough about what I should be looking for I guess. 🤷🏻‍♂️ It seemed good from a quick look but I’d have to see the reports on the other options to know where it stands. I know he was running Mobil 1 prior. Lots of variables though being a...

Is GM’s Dexos 2 requirement for the LT4 on the C7 Z06 and CTS-V strictly emissions based?

Well, my buddy just sent me this from his analysis he ran on his 870hp Z06 using the driven DI40 0w40 oil. It’s a fresh built motor on its second oil change so that explains some of the comments in the comment section. I guess I should have given a little more detail than I did. Lol Stuff is...

Is GM’s Dexos 2 requirement for the LT4 on the C7 Z06 and CTS-V strictly emissions based?

This stuff isn’t priced too bad and looks pretty good. I know they have a DI40 that’s a 0w40 and a DT40 also. I’d have to read the specific differences between each but I’ve heard good things about this driven oil.
