Does Castrol need better products or marketing?

Another aspect I believe that helps it get lost here is that this crowd is always looking for something new, innovative, revolutionary, cue up the likes of HPL and VRP, even PUP. I just don’t see any snippets of Castrol doing anything other than what they have for years.

HPL 5W30 for new 24 Hyundai palisade

For sure. Either way it’s a little extra protection buffer and some extra peace-of-mind. I don’t know Schaffer’s oils at all so I can’t comment however, judging by price I just assume they are better quality than normal off-the-shelf offerings.

HPL 5W30 for new 24 Hyundai palisade

Remember HPL isn't just good for long changes, it is also going to resist the effects of fuel dilution while maintaining protection very well with the added benefit of likely pushing your changes out a bit, safely. Haven't used Schaffers oil, though I would assume that the 9000 series is similar...

High Performance Lubricants No VII series engine oils.

It’s more than that for a lot of us here though. It’s the curiosity of the chemistry, engineering, oil blending facilities, etc. when I tell people oil and lubricants are a hobby I get some strange looks! Hell, I’d drive out from Washington state to see HPL’s setup!

High Performance Lubricants No VII series engine oils.

What a strange obsession with one parameter of an oil. Fanboy or not their lowest end oils wipe the floor with anything off-the-shelf.

HPL 5W30 for new 24 Hyundai palisade

It is cost effective if you extend the drain interval. If you sticking with something like 5-7k changes then yes it will be pricey.

    Thoughts on switching to HPL

Mine was a 4.6 3-valve with 210k on the clock run on whatever-off-the-shelf it’s whole life, presumably it was going to be dirty, and it was. Watch the filters and motor on.

    Thoughts on switching to HPL

For sure, if your engine is that gummed it makes perfect sense.

    Thoughts on switching to HPL

This is the route I took. Drained the Kirkland and Amsoil SS, filled with HPL and ran it. Monitored oil filters and that’s about it.

    Wear vs Viscosity

Here is where our thermostatically controlled cooling systems come into play.

    Wear vs Viscosity

How is the “50” in 15w-50 relevant in that environment? First number matters there, second doesn’t care where it is.

The effects of car oil on wet clutches and high rpm engines.

Those are my thoughts as well, now I have a “keep clean” regimen going on. I’m also dealing with replacing dried out seals. This particular owner laid it over once and parked it.

Should I expect nasty black smelly oil?

Again, without an analysis you have no idea if the oil is still serviceable or not, regardless of color or smell. HPL and Amsoil are designed to take this beating and extend changes safely.

Where can you buy 10w-40 restore and protect oil?

Plenty of the same carbon-filters from other members too, brendanc and wwilson come to mind.

Where can you buy 10w-40 restore and protect oil?

Check my filter cut and Inspect on my 2007 Sport trac, and the many more filter inspects on this site after using some type of HPL.

Where can you buy 10w-40 restore and protect oil?

If you are after the cleaning properties why not just go with HPL? They will undoubtedly be cheaper than shipping oil from Australia, which is frankly, ridiculous!

Where do you find sample kits for wear check? I may try them just because oil analyzers portal is really bad.

The effects of car oil on wet clutches and high rpm engines.

Bought my bike 2 years ago, a 2007 with 5k miles on it. Immediately put Amsoil MC 10-40 in and for the first 2k burned about 3/4qt. Now, at 14k miles with 4k oci’s it mourns no more that a cup of oil. I know, not scientific at all, however, that’s good evidence for me that some type of ring...

    2016 Toyota RAV4, HPL PCEO 10W20, 12,471 miles

Sweet sample. I know the oxidation is high to begin with for HPL and it’s not alarming most the time even though it is flagged. Is that because of the different base oils used?
