Metal in oil at 25k - 2023 Tacoma

I personally wouldn’t lose sleep over that with 25k on the clock. Try a different filter, maybe a shorter OCI for a change or two and see how things look.

Alternative to GTL T6 0W40 but still an hdeo/pceo for Honda 600RR race bike

Don’t get wrapped up in ester, PAO, POE, etc. Get yourself a good jaso ma fully formulated motorcycle oil in the correct weight and ride on. Personally I use HPL and Amsoil metric motorcycle in 10w-40 flavor for the ninja 250r. No, I don’t track the bike just commute, however, I do wring it’s...

2500 miles or 3 months oil change

Purely mechanical design flaws and tuning issues. No amount of “holy grail” oil or other fluids will save bad designs. I personally stay away from Stellantis/Gm products for this very reason.

Any reason to run an engine after a oil change?

Like bullwinkle suggested, fogging is good for a downtime that long. While we still occasionally use our v6 boat during the winter, I still fog it every time due to the insanely wet weather here. I don’t worry about it in the summer.

Which oil cleans more: HPL or Valvoline Restore and Protect?

This advertised prevention isn’t guaranteed though. Myself and others on this forum who have run good, approved oils in the past switched to HPL and start to see carbon bits in the filter. No guarantee they came from the rings, however, that is the most logical source to see that chunky carbon.

    Amsoil SS 0W-16 5k mi; Rav4

Oh man, the “OMG there are going to be blown up motors everywhere with water thin oil” crowd will love this.

    Finally making the HPL plunge

My guess would be seeking to pull some gunk out of the rings and give her a bit longer life. To OP, solid plan, do it, you won’t be disappointed!

Why is using HPL for short drain intervals a waste?

That is awesome. Point is, you will spend more over the life of the vehicle than using HPL with extended drains, or even Amsoil SS for that matter.

Why is using HPL for short drain intervals a waste?

That is not the consensus at all. And the overpriced statement is bogus, if you used correctly it is not expensive. For participating in an oil forum where the assumption can be made that you want the best for your vehicles, constantly bickering over a few dollars for oil really gets old here.

Why is using HPL for short drain intervals a waste?

And that is the one and only feature that VRP and HPL share in common.

Why is using HPL for short drain intervals a waste?

We have seen people on this very forum that have switched to HPL from top shelf oils at Wally World and the like and end up with good bits of junk in their filters, so it isn’t quite true that any OTS oil will keep motor and rings spotless. That being said, I know there are tons of variances in...

People saying to change your oil at 1000 miles on new vehicle.

Diffs and Transmissions are far more neglected than any other fluid in vehicle, diffs especially!

People saying to change your oil at 1000 miles on new vehicle.

Make sense to do some filter swaps early which catches leftover debris, oil probably doesn’t care either way.

How old is your oldest motorcycle?

2007 EX250, not super old, however, not changed since 1988 model year so there is that. Ridiculously fun bike I use to commute everyday, about 5k miles a year. I hammer on it and it never flinches! Almost forgot the 1998 YZ250, currently undergoing a tip to bottom full rebuild/restore.

    Change oil every 2k?!

2k is nuts, way too long. Why not every fuel fill up? Jokes aside, it does make some sense in Japan. I lived there for four years and rocked a plain-Jane R32 across the country. While there is highway/wide-open driving it’s nothing like in America, Canada, Australia. Tons of stop/go, slower city...

    Is this too much oil?

To each their own, that’s strange to me though! I personally go to the full mark or just a smidge over.

    Is this too much oil?

There are threads on this site of people purposely putting more oil in, not unlike OP’s level, for an extra safety margin. Motor on with peace of mind and don’t give that outfit your money again.
