Oil changing questions I should have known by now but don't

WJM, Checking the level on the dipstick can drive you insane. Yes, you get different readings on either side of the stick, it's hard to see level because oil is clean. It's even worse on a transmission stick. You're best bet is this. If the engine takes 4.5 qts with filter, just add 4.5 qts and...

I just tried Jescar Power Lock Plus Polymer Sealant

Jescar Ultra Lock + has ceramic properities added to it for additional protection and longevity. Jescar Power lock + does not have ceramic in it. I'm not a detail expert, but I would imagine the Ultralock would last longer due to the ceramic.

Ford recalls over 850,000 cars in the US due to potential fuel pump failure

I said I wasn't knocking Ford on this one. Read my post again. I had a 1993 Olds Cierra leave me dead on the highway because the pump in the tank died. My luck it was the dead of winter no less. Froze my a-s off waiting for a tow. A lot of manufacturers have fuel pump recalls.

    New M1 Oil Filters

Yes, I am aware. I only use OEM filters. Try to catch them on bulk sale online. As for the oil, it's whatever synthetic bulk sale also. I'm not throwin dino oil into them. Usually name brand stuff, Pennzoil, Mobil 1, Quaker State, Valvoline, etc. That's just me. Sorry, we also don't do much...

Sorry, I don't care who makes the filter. It's not staying on any of my engines for 20k. You can throw all the stats at me you want. Oil change and filter @ 3k. Can't teach an old dog new tricks :)

Ford recalls over 850,000 cars in the US due to potential fuel pump failure

Ford ( Found On Road Dead )......I think the Pinto and Tempo were good examples of this....I use to be a Mercury fan ( high end Ford). Had a 1973 Mercury Montego with a 351 Windsor in it. Couldn't kill it. I would wreck the cars, buy another Montego with a 351 Cleveland with a blown oil...

Oil changing questions I should have known by now but don't

I don't add oil before an oil change. That' a complete waste of new oil. I don't pre-fill the filter either. I warm up the car to operating temp and dump the oil and filter, ( be careful, it's hot ). The car is sitting on a slight angle toward the oil plug hole. Take off the filter 1st. Then go...

    Reclaimed Oil for push mower.

Yep, you nailed it. Those air filters get clogged up fairly quick. I mean, they're mounted right there, where the dirt / grass/ leaves get sucked right into them. Can't get much closer to the ground. A lot of people either don't care or don't know any better, so they just throw them away with a...

Average car Overfilled 1 qt. anyone ever see this cause a problem?

OMG !!! The 2.5 liter from the late 70's into the 80's. I used to rebuild them ! Had a fiber type of cam gear directly meshed to the steel crank gear and made that tell tale noise. The stupid cam gear would wear down after awhile, and then the motor would just quit. Distributor/ coil pack...

Would you buy a new Mitsubishi?

Well, as they say,, there is no hell. Life is hell. Try the same offer, dealers are hurtin too. They might take the worm on the hook. ( Trump tariffs aren't helping you either ) Broken ribs hurt something fierce, I've had them. Feel bad for her. Will take some time, but they'll heal. Too bad...

Average car Overfilled 1 qt. anyone ever see this cause a problem?

That's why I do my own OC's. Want it done right, do it yourself ( if you have the capabilities ). Never trusted those Jiffy Lube's, Quickie Lube's, or whatever. Case in point : Today / 7-10-25 / drove past a Valvoline Quik Lube joint. Just so happened I was at a red light and turned my...

    12V battery charger question

Had one of those for years, before smart chargers. They work well, but, you really gotta watch the battery. Take the caps off, check the cells, top off, etc. GREAT for a dead battery ( not frozen or shorted out, just discharged ) Now I strictly use Noco Genius chargers for maintenance. Can't...

Average car Overfilled 1 qt. anyone ever see this cause a problem?

I personally think that given that oil expands in heat, the only problem with 1 qt over would be the crankshaft getting some resistance from sloshing thru the extra oil, thus reducing gas mileage a tad. Other than that, I don't see a problem

    Reclaimed Oil for push mower.

I agree. I take good care of the small 20 oz oil engines on my trash picked machines. They saved me hundreds of dollars buying them new, didn't have to pay sales tax on them, didn't have to drive to Home Depot or Lowes to get them. All they needed was an air filter, OC, and sharpen the blade on...
