    FULL oil filters?

Never wild about filters that make no claims about filtration efficiency, no matter how well built they look. Seems to me that the job of a filter is to filter.

Model 3 Mid Range, Trip Test #2

No, we don't drive that like every day, but we also don't commute every day (retired). We do like to be able to drop everything and take off to visit one of the kids, or head to the coast, or go for a hike in the mountains. Some days we just like to get off the interstates and spend a day...

Model 3 Mid Range, Trip Test #2

We like the idea of having one EV and one ICE for when we need it, but our first major hurdle is that our very old house just has 60 amp service and before we could even contemplate putting in a charger we would need about $5-10K in wiring (from the pole to the panel and then within the house)...

How many folks still use cash?

I purchase most stuff using credit cards that give me rebates, so I make hundreds of dollars a year doing that. But, I also like to carry at least $100 in cash for when it is needed. Here in the Northeast there are lots of little diners, farm stands, ice cream places and such that only take...

Model 3 Mid Range, Trip Test #2

The difficulty I would have with driving an EV is that the places I go to frequently and park do not currently have and are unlikely to ever have charging available. We hike a lot and there will never be chargers at trailheads. For example, one place I go regularly is about 225 miles away and...

Don't bring used oil to a store in a coolant jug....

Sure, but just keep extra jugs around and use the motorcycle oil to top off the next jug. I have vehicles that take under 5 quarts, over 5 quarts, and as much as two gallons of oil for a change. In any case, I like to put used oil into oil containers that seal well so I don't have to worry about...

    Oil change without new filter?

In that scenario I prefer to change oil and filter in the fall, run the engine long enough to circulate the oil throughout, then shut down for the winter. Better to have clean oil everywhere in the engine for the 6 months of sitting. I've been doing this for boats and motorcycles forever and...

How do you feel about traffic scenarios (what crosses the line)

Another one is people who don't clean their roofs of snow in the winter and then usually they just clear a small hole in front of their face and drive off. My sister and father had the windscreen caved in when a sheet of ice came off a trailer ahead of them on the Thruway. Luckily they both wear...

DIY Ultra enhancement to Fram Ultra...

I have yet to have a car last long enough to have an engine problem related to oil or oil filters. I do use high-efficiency filters and quality oil because it makes me feel better, but where I live the rust destroys the rest of the car long before the engine can die from regular use.

Oops! Sorry! Get the right tool.

How do you feel about traffic scenarios (what crosses the line)

Another traffic scenario I hate is someone driving along the superhighway with a bunch of crap piled into the back of a pickup that is held down with a few bungy cords and prayers. Once a four-by-four flew off the back of one of these loads and struck the top edge of the windscreen right in...

Thanks! That is pretty much what I wanted to see, but your link doesn't work for me. I searched for the thread and found this link: https://bobistheoilguy.com/forums/threads/oil-filter-value-analysis.365173/

Ultra or Endurance for 2 OCIs?

Some FU filters have holes and not louvers, like the XG6607 that fits my Subaru. OTOH, the large XG2 has rather tiny louvers!

Agreed! But, shouldn't a filter have a silicone ADBV if the company's website says it does? Sure, it's a minor thing, but if that information is wrong, what else is wrong in their description of the filter? If a restaurant advertises "lobster" I don't want to get imitation crab meat.

Cars might be making a comeback in an SUV-Dominated Market

Obviously, you should get the vehicles you need, but on my street I am seeing lots of trucks used for nothing other than hauling one or two people to one of the nice local restaurants or bars. Judging from how the truck looks it is rarely, if ever, used for anything you need a truck for, yet...

    Oil change without new filter?

Seems a bit pricey and exotic to use the 0W-40 for cleaning purposes, but the filter should be no problem at all. However, I have sometimes crushed the filter quite a bit using universal tools and I would suspect a filter like that. Frankly, I would be surprised you can't remove it with the...

It's been shown on here numerous times. ADBV is claimed to be silicone and isn't, for example. Or the website says one thing and the box says another. Makes me suspicious of other information.

I understand the liability problem if BITOG published something incorrect! I guess I'll just have to keep updating my own spreadsheets. For example, I have my own cross-references for all the filter brands for my various vehicles. I was just thinking about how difficult it is to know what is...

Need a grand oil filter summary thread

Sure, I can search (and I do), but I'll come up with thirteen threads on a topic dating back many years with contradictory information. Also, I find that most manufacturer and dealer websites don't have complete or accurate information.
