Anyone ever change oil in rental car?

I have had to add oil to rentals but not change it, but last year was close as the oil life monitor on the Grand Wagoneer L was at 15 percent and that bothered my OCD personality. For the family trips, since we bring the dogs, I always vacuum the trucks out thoroughly and wipe everything down...

New Dodge Hornets reported as selling 33 percent below MSRP- worth consideration??

They are basically the same car as a Stelvio but they are rebadged as a Dodge. Rented one in Florida and flogged it thoroughly. Fun little runabout. Another example of a nice car hobbled by aggressive pricing and being marketed to the wrong demographic - Dodge buyers don’t want a small sporty...

2025 Ram Hurricane I-6 dipstick deletion

Great cars! I had two of them back in the day. One got totaled and then bought a second. I really miss them but they could be a PITA with the early electronics and sensors, no question. Remember the brake “bomb”? Real pain in the ass. ;-) I really enjoyed doing valve adjustments (before I...

2025 Ram Hurricane I-6 dipstick deletion

For those bashing the hurricane, have you driven a vehicle powered by one? Fantastic motor, equivalent to a BMW B58 in my opinion, and I consider that one of if not the finest mass produced engines available today. I prefer a dipstick but the gauge is actually easier once you get used to it.

Newer Dodge "Ram" trucks with Rust?

I had a 97 1500 that the doors had rusted out on by the time it approached 300k. Real piece of crap. ;-)

Newer Dodge "Ram" trucks with Rust?

The Rams from around 15-20 years ago had the same environmentally friendly rust “protection” system as the Mercedes cars from the early 2000s - those are the S class and C class models you will typically see with bad rust on the door bottoms, rockers, and trunk lids. I believe I read that Ram...

Newer Dodge "Ram" trucks with Rust?

I am wondering if people clean the undersides and wheel wells thoroughly after bad snow storms. We have a 2019 Ram, had a 2009 Ford before that, no rust issues on either but I clean the undersides pretty much after any event requiring road salt. Same with out Toyota SUV, no problems there either.

What happened to BMW and its designs?

The market has changed and BMW has had to adapt. Do I prefer the E39 pictured above to the new 5? Absolutely. But if BMW simply catered to those of us who believe this they likely would have ceased being an independent car company several decades ago. BMW has done a respectable job meeting...

Are German cars safer than Japanese or American cars?

My experience with BMW is yes. All them have to pass standard safety tests but I am more comfortable with a company that was doing that before it was required because it is more likely they will design a safer car to begin with, that will perform better in a real world situation a test may not...

    2025 Dodge Charger Daytona EV

Agree 100%. Shame of it is that the hurricane SO and HO are terrific motors, but if you force the customer to take them, instead of giving the option, you undermine a lot of great work into bringing these newer designs to market. Jamming things down people’s throats, particularly when those...

    "Fuel Efficiency Standards Are Dead"

They want access to the capital markets. Part of the financial system but a specific part. Have a good day.

    "Fuel Efficiency Standards Are Dead"

There is truth in what you are saying insofar wealth does not equal happiness. Moreover there is truth to your idea that life requires balance. That being said, the disparities in GDP and productivity do filter through in terms of things that improve people’s day to day quality of life. And...

    "Fuel Efficiency Standards Are Dead"

I understand your point but these profitability of Wall Street banks filters directly into the portfolio of every American with a 401k or employer funded retirement account they invests in the S&P or other broad indices that pick up the financial sector. Same with big technology and the other...

    "Fuel Efficiency Standards Are Dead"

Yes good point. I was referencing national GDP but your point is even more startling, and relevant. There is the old quote from Margaret Thacher: problem with socialism is eventually you run out of other people’s money.

    2025 Dodge Charger Daytona EV

A friend owns a Chrysler dealer outside Philadelphia. They cannot give them away. The demographic who likes these cars wants something powered by gasoline. Shame because it’s a great car, but it is the wrong car for that demographic. Another example of where Tavares did not understand the...

    "Fuel Efficiency Standards Are Dead"

It is unlikely we will get more Euro models. The markets are different. Small wagons sell there because the higher price of fuel and typically less homeownership - less places to store and park bigger vehicles. I always get a kick out of seeing tow hitches on a lot of small to medium wagons...

    "Fuel Efficiency Standards Are Dead"

I have long thought CAFE was a fool’s errand. If a consumer wants a vehicle that gets mid teens to fill, they can pay that cost. If other consumers want something more efficient because they live where fuel is expensive, or they have a long commute, same principle applies. Problem we have...

Oil for Kohler 20RCA generator - says fully synthetic API 5W-30 rated SG SH or SJ

Totally understand your point. If I lived in TX I would seriously consider a higher viscosity. That being said, the unit has a good quality synthetic in it (Mobil 5w30 full synthetic) and I think that is much better than bare minimum. I have had terrific luck with their full synthetic oils...

    3-Row SUV for Midlife Crisis

Interesting because we have rented both for several weeks at a time and with the third row up our experience is the Wagoneer L had a lot more room for the dogs and some soft items we didn’t want to put in the carrier. I am trying to think of what year the Suburban was, maybe that is the reason...

    3-Row SUV for Midlife Crisis

If you want third row and the most cargo space, Wagoneer L is the way to go in my experience with all three of those platforms.
