    2003 Dodge Caravan front brakes

2003 Dodge Caravan, 145K miles, 3.3 V6, bought used so no real maintenance history. Brake pedal is getting lower and braking performance is poor. Checked front discs and inner brake pad on drivers side caliper is barely touching rotor, as shown by the wear and rust on rotor. All pads are very...

    Hayward Pool Filter ????

I have an 18 year old Hayward Pool Filter. (3/4 HP 110V ) Today, the motor made a metallic death screech, smoke came out of the front bearing, and the breaker tripped. Let it cool off, reset breaker, and restarted. It runs fine except very noisy, I assume the front bearing is trashed, as that is...

Hot water heater brands? Plumbing supply vs. Big box?

Time for a new one then. If you are flushing frequently and changing anodes every 5 years, any heater tank should last nearly forever. The controls may give problems. I do not have gas heaters in my units, but, other owners have said the igniter goes bad periodically. The igniter is supposedly...

Hot water heater brands? Plumbing supply vs. Big box?

Cap the valve with a metal garden hose cap. Make sure the cap has a nice rubber gasket. Done. I am really cheap :-)

Hot water heater brands? Plumbing supply vs. Big box?

The plastic valve probably has a chunk of mineral sludge wedged into it. See my cut open water heater post. I had about a gallon of mineral sludge in the bottom of my old electric heater. How about cutting off the gas and water, unscrew the existing valve, and replace with a steel pipe nipple...

1998 Toyota Truck “He’s Dead Jim”

Fdcg27 - People refer to my county as " Ceciltucky " since it is rural and lots of good ole boys live here. In reality, Cecil County, Maryland is right next to Newark, Delaware. Both Delaware and Maryland compete to see how many tons of rock salt and chemical brine they can drop per snow. This...

1998 Toyota Truck “He’s Dead Jim”

The frame rust finally won. The front leaf spring hanger is now free floating. ( see pix ) I have a 1998 Toyota Tacoma with perfect interior, perfect engine and trans and a bad frame. Aside from driving (slowly) to a scrap yard about 3 miles away, is there anything you can do with a vehicle...

    Had to ELIMINATE a raccoon

I have had the full series of rabies shots after being bitten by a feral cat. The modern rabies shots are given in both shoulders, one thigh, and one "cheek", followed by a shot in the shoulder every week for a month. I almost passed out from the cheek shot. If you can avoid the full series of...

    Just spotted: 1974 Pinto!

A high school buddy of mine had a 1973 with the "big" 2000 cc engine. The engine was very responsive to mods. We put a better exhaust system on and rejetted the carb. We got that sucker up to 125 mph on US route 1 about 3 AM one morning. We were 18 years old and did not know about the nifty...

    AC PF2257G Any good?

I just bought a 2019 Colorado with V6. So far, I like the truck and plan to change the oil and filter at 1000 miles to inspect the factory cartridge filter for dirt or metal. I was going to use a factory Delco filter for now, in case of any warranty issues. The factory Delco filter looks very...

Fram Ultra VS AC Delco cartridge

Just picked up a 2019 Chevy Colorado with V6. I want to change the oil and filter at 1000 miles and every 6 months thereafter. The vehicle will alternate between short tripping and towing a heavy trailer in hilly areas. The Fram Ultra is rated at 20 microns in a single pass, and the Delco is 25...

    pipe collar on roof

There is a hard plastic "boot" that slips on over the vent pipe and lasts FOREVER. Available at Home Depot and Lowes. It is called a Perma-Boot. Measure to make sure it fits before buying. Most roof leaks happen at the vent stacks, and, can do a lot of damage if not caught right away.

    Need a high zinc oil

How about Amsoil Z-Rod? Pricey, but contains a lot of zinc and corrosion inhibitors for seldom driven classics.

80 Million US Household - Data Breach

Having a decent credit rating helps in ways you may not consider. Jobs, renting a place, auto insurance, financing a car, etc. Also, it is hard to maintain a decent credit rating. Why go to the effort of keeping your credit rating good, only to have a criminal trash it? I have seen major credit...

80 Million US Household - Data Breach

Everyone needs to lock their credit reports. I used to work in credit card banking ( may be a sign of low intelligence ) Every day, I fielded calls from an angry consumer who is being dunned by bill collectors. Here is what happened: Crooks apply for a credit card in the consumers name and an...

Drain and Fill on a 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan

I have a 2003 Dodge Grand Caravan with 3.3 liter V-6. The generic trans filters available at the local Advance Auto will not lock into place properly. I had to buy a Mopar part from the local Dodge dealer. Wix filters have a good reputation and may fit fine, just be aware of this.

    Hard Boiled Egg Recipes

Punch a hole in egg with an old sewing needle. Place in a pot filled with cold water. Bring to a boil, turn off heat and wait 15 minutes. Drop eggs one at a time into cold water, let sit for 10 seconds then crack and roll between hands. The shell almost always peels right off.

Amsoil Saber 100:1 2 stroke oil

I used Amsoil Saber at 50 to 1 in a consumer grade weedwhacker. I think it was made by McCullough. 15 years and the only maintenance was cleaning the air filter and greasing the flex cable. It was running great when I traded it for a more powerful model. I also use the 50 to 1 mix in a little...

    Backing up a small trailer

My wife wants to go camping by herself. She has a lot of trouble backing a small pop up type camper into the space at the campground. I tried to teach her the old " hold wheel at 6:00 O clock and lift in the direction you want trailer to go" No luck. She is getting frustrated and thinking about...
