    Need Advice on Tire Size

There is more difference between make/model of tire than there is between tires of the same size. My advice would be to leave things alone until you need new tires.

    Tire Damage?

Just saw this, and even though you've resolved the issue, the question is worthy of a response. First, the OE tires that came on your Lexus are different than the OE tires that came on your Venza. That's because the car manufacturer sets the specs for each and the tires are designed to those...

    Foam filled tires

If I had to guess, the fence post foam will turn to dust when it is flexed - if it flexes at all. If you're willing to clean everything, or buy a complete tire and wheel assembly, why not try it and let us know the result.

    XL vs SL

No. What I am saying is we can't know enough to give you a definitive answer. It's quite possible for things to get better, but it's also possible for things to be worse.

    XL vs SL

The biggest problem here is the OE Bridgestone. We don't know how Toyota designed the ride qualities compared with the average tire. It's likely there won't be much difference, but it's far from a sure thing.

    XL vs SL

The difference between an SL and an XL is small enough that you can ignore it. What really makes a difference is the inflation pressure - and if you use the same inflation pressure, you aren't going to notice the difference. However if you're changing make/model, the difference can be quite...

    Tire Damage?

You need to look inside for rubber dust. I'll bet there is a little and if so, tire is done!

    Bridgestone Ecopia HL 422 Plus-noisy!

Word of Caution: OE tires - the ones that come on new cars from the assembly plant - are built to the car manufacturer's specs and as such none of them are the same - even if they have the same exact name. The tire that came on the Escape is different than the tire that came on the Mazda 3.

old school 700-15s to newer metric

I'm not sure what the wire size has to do with tires and/or wheels. - BUT - A 7.00-15 Load Range C doesn't have an exact replacement in modern tire sizing. The closest in a trailer tire is an ST205/75R15 LR C. Here's the specs: 7.00-15 LR C: OD is 29.62" with a 7.95" width a a 5.50" rim...

    Barry's Tire Tech: New Stuff!!

ST tires are very cost sensitive. Making bias tires is a way to use old equipment. That makes the cost very low. The only time I have heard of a tire being made specifically bias for sidewall stiffness is for racing purposes. I suspect that the only reason ST tires come in radials is to...

New tire needed for 5-10K miles--how important is it to match?

In emergency maneuvers, vehicles tend to pivot around odd tires - and the more odd the tire, the stronger that tendency. A new tire of the same make/ model is the least odd of the possibilities.

    Barry's Tire Tech: New Stuff!!

No. Somewhat. What's going on is this: A radial ply tries to form a circle. The belt restricts that. A bias ply tries to form an oval, and the more the angle, the squatter that oval. If I build a BB tire on old bias equipment, the belt restricts the circumference, but not as much as it...

    Barry's Tire Tech: New Stuff!!

Bias Belted Performance? If you reread the article, everywhere the belt is mentioned, that's where the BB tire gets the same improvement - just less so. That's because BB tires are built with angles on the belt closer to the plies, so they can be built on the old bias equipment. And thinking...

    Barry's Tire Tech: New Stuff!!

Barry's Tire Tech: Monthly Blog This is my way of pointing out news that I find interesting. Obviously my orientation is towards tires. Barry's Tire Tech: Bias vs Radial Tires (New July, 2025) I wrote this up because I saw a video on the subject and thought I could do a better job. The...

    Costco Tire Balance issue

I think you have an alignment problem that is manifesting itself as a vibration that gets worse as the tire wears unevenly. So I would start with an alignment check before doing anything else. If there is an alignment problem, then you'll have to wait until the old wear pattern wears off - a...

Are these spare tires actually better than the rest?

You didn't identify the tires (make/model) and that's important. There is a difference between the way tires look if they are bias vs radial. Plus differences in size (high aspect ratio vs low aspect ratio) can make a difference in the way it looks. Besides, we are talking TEMPORARY spares...

Sienna: can she use these 225 on 235 size van

Did you not read my response? Under tired is mostly about load carrying capacity. It's one of the reasons more inflation pressure helps these minivans.

    air pressure and dry traction

I am sure that lower inflation pressure would result in more dry traction - BUT - It comes at a price. And one of those prices is the possibility of structural damage. So I suggest if this car is a daily driver, you get a set of tires whose sole purpose is drag racing and leave the all...

Sienna: can she use these 225 on 235 size van

"under tired" is mostly about load carrying capacity. In the case of the Sienna, it seems like the original tires are barely adequate and larger tires would fix the tire wear issues. In your case, a 225/75R16 is what Tire Rack says is equivalent to the 19's you have now.
