    Echo Red Armor Oil

I apologize if this is a thread high-jack, but I literally just got off the phone with someone who manages a gazzionaire’s large estate and he recommended VP Racing fuel from Lowe’s (@$23/gal). He’s a bit wonky about details, so when he said 50-1 & 40-1, I said ”oh, you’re talking about...

    2013 F-150 3.5 Ecoboost Motul 8100 Eco Lite 5w-30, 5690 mile OCI

Nice write-up. Nice endorsement for Motul too. And Ford. My EB’s iron numbers are OK (~1k miles), aluminum OK, no Chromium, but Copper is consistently high for some reason (~1k miles). Total 2 the miles are long distance summer highway, with additional highway miles ( Most of this summer use...

    2015 F-150 3.5L V6 Ecoboost - Havoline ProDS 5w-30

Iron is often “normalized” as a ppm per 1k miles. 2ppm per 1k isn’t too bad for these motors, but it sounds like you have less than 10k miles, so more than 2ppm/1k. How much over, depends on the mileage. but probably not alarming. im glad I have zero Chromium on any of my UOA’s, any vehicle...

    2013 F-150 3.5 Ecoboost Motul 8100 Eco Lite 5w-30, 5690 mile OCI

Jealous of your results, my EB not as good and only 78K. Also, this is first UOA of Motul in an EB that I’ve seen. what were your previous oils in the UOA? do you get much gunk out of your catch can? what trans fluid and diff fluid are you using (Since you don’t fit “the mold” for typical...

"U.S. and European refiners are scrambling to get enough octane to make high-quality gasoline." -Autoblog

sorry, I think they are gouging on the premium. Many MB, BMW, or Lexus drivers probably don’t care, but many of the Regular users are more price-conscious. Look up “Price elasticity“ to better understand. Premium users are less concerned with price; their buying decisions are based less on price.

HPL No VII 5W30 Euro, 1993 Volvo 240, 5,400 mile OCI

Well, there’s “virgin” oxidation, and then there is “degradation-related” oxidation. i just checked a screen-print I have of the no-VII PDS. It shows virgin viscosity of the euro 5w30 at 11.19, not 11.9, so my bad for repeating the 11.9 previously. Flashpoint is lower than most other grades or...

HPL No VII 5W30 Euro, 1993 Volvo 240, 5,400 mile OCI

I know I am a bit surprised. The flashpoint is quite low, supposedly meaning considerable fuel dilution. Yes, there are no VII’s to shear, but to have lost only 0.45cst (if virgin kv100 really is 11.9), then it does make you wonder if thickening has occurred, or if these No VII oils just react...

    2017 Ford F-150 3.5 EB - MotorCraft SynBld 5W-30 (7,100 miles)

As usual, I’m a sucker for into looking at any EcoBoost UOA. Thanks for posting it. EcoBoosts often suffer from fuel dilution, and despite what Blackstone says, it’s possible yours does too…if you used a lab that legitimately tested for it through Gas Chromatography, you would have a better...

2022 Ford Explorer ST - 3.0L EcoBoost - 2,130 Miles on Factory Fill Oil

@SR56 “Apparently Ford put something else in the motor other than the recommended fill? It's supposed to be Motorcraft Synthetic Blend 5w-30.” hunh? Oh I see, you actually read the lab’s comments. Oil Analysers needs to up their game on these comments. Maybe this shows they are trying…not sure...

Dont know how to choose correct HPL oil

I see HPL is the new BITOG darling, but where would some of the “thought leaders“ here rank Amsoil SS (and XL for that matter) relative to the various HPL passenger car products? I’m mostly asking about quality, and mostly about 5w30, in case one company makes a great 5w30 but it’s 5w20 or 0w40...

Dont know how to choose correct HPL oil

Fair enough, I’ve heard the U.S. vs ROW argument before, and basically respect it; plus running “thicker” oil is one way to defy fuel dilution. But if you are willing to do a UOA, let it guide you regarding whether to change the oil right away, or after some amount of additional miles/months...

Dont know how to choose correct HPL oil

@JRHAWK9 is your Crosstrek engine stock? Tuned? Added Turbo? Do you have UOA’s showing fuel dilution? What engine code is this? FA? FB? I doubt it’s EJ25. I’m just curious, as a fellow Subaru owner, why you are using one of the very best oils in the world, formulated with additives to last way...

Dont know how to choose correct HPL oil

By all means do what you like, but that should be a waste. try what some (including HPL’s leader) are suggesting: do a filter change at 4K if you insist, or 5k, run a UOA on the oil, then decide if you need to change the oil. I bet you could run it 10k. Of course, if your Subie is heavily...

Dont know how to choose correct HPL oil

as far as I know, no one has compared HPL products with the old Valvoline/Cummins Premium Blue Restore. There are certainly some similarities, though there was only one grade (10w30) of VPBR. So I would love to hear some thought on that comparison. There is a newer VPBR (Gen II), with which I...

Dont know how to choose correct HPL oil

I deleted my post, because I’m not sure I was supposed to repeat what “someone” at HPL had told me. But Skippy’s post #3 is consistent with what I heard….though even the “lowly“ PCMO is stellar compared to most offerings on the market. And less shearing as you go up from PCMO to Premium, and...

    Amsoil SS 0W-20 vs Schaeffer’s 0W-20 & filter in Honda 2.0L

I’ve heard…. I just wanted to see if anyone was already rolling their eyes. To @FranklinFox, OK, one question is: is this an engine prone to fuel dilution? I would get a UOA by the 2nd or 3rd oil change to get a baseline. So that would be around 15k miles. much sooner than that, and you’ll get...

The scam continues: Why wind turbines are being re-powered at 10-years

all this encouraged me to read up a bit more on this. On one hand, crypto mining represents a “scalable” load, can’t remember the exact phrase they used, but crypto use can “near-instantly” be shut down or shut off, if other grid uses need more juice, or scaled back up if there is slack in the...

The scam continues: Why wind turbines are being re-powered at 10-years

It’s a complicated story, but I feel compelled to share it. A buddy of mine is employed to repair/refurb/maintain wind farms. He’s as busy as he wants to be, though giving that he is with a “contractor” firm, he gets to turn down business whenever it suits him. irrelevant, though I would say...
