Cut Open: 17 µm Purolator ONE vs 20 µm Fram Titanium

So I did some math … The total area of the 67 core holes = approximately 192mm squared If the 8 Titanium plate holes were 3.07mm circles their total area would be roughly 59mm squared. The PowerFlow plate holes are tear-like shapes, so their total surface area is a bit greater than 59mm...

Fram Titanium is no longer metal screen backed. Ultra, Endurance, Titanium ALL are synthetic *blend* media.

Fwiw - today bought and cut open Fram Titanium FS3506: not metal backed - but box says it should be. (Filter media on the left is FRAM filter media on the right is Purolator.)

Cut Open: 17 µm Purolator ONE vs 20 µm Fram Titanium

On the Fram Titanium there are 8 larger holes on the baseplate and there are 67 smaller holes on the center core. Way more open area on the center core than the base plate. It’s not even close. Even tho the core holes are smaller than the base plate holes - there are more than 8 core holes...

Cut Open: 17 µm Purolator ONE vs 20 µm Fram Titanium

On paper these filters are both outstanding. The Fram Titanium FS3506 filtration efficiency is 99%+ at 20 µm, the Purolator ONE PL14006 is an amazing 99% at 17 µm! So I bought them both and cut them open to compare their construction:

    99% at 17 microns! Purolator ONE PL14006

103k It was a 1-owner car that was traded in for something new. I bought the car from a used car dealer that handles all sales from trade-ins, so I don’t have any records other than the Carfax, which has some services recorded. It seems like a gently owned car. I’ll do the valves sooner than...

    99% at 17 microns! Purolator ONE PL14006

I'm aware of this issue, but since it's pretty rare for 2001 Zs I wasn't too concerned. At some point I'll probably do the springs, cam and balancer all at the same time. I'm sure you've seen this Corvette Forum thread: LINK Failure summary: 5 for 2001, 94 for 2002, 59 for 2003, and 5 for 2004...

    99% at 17 microns! Purolator ONE PL14006

I personally thought it would be of value for more than one person to request info. If we anyone else gets the same info, then it’s probably not just a random customer service rep giving inaccurate info. Since this is the first time I’ve seen an claimed efficiency this good - I’m glad you...

    99% at 17 microns! Purolator ONE PL14006

Because I just cut open 10 new LT1 filters to check out their construction, and I emailed all manufacturers to confirm their efficiency claims - I was not going to go thru that whole process again for the LS6 powered Corvette I just purchased. I was just going to use what I learned about LT1...

    99% at 17 microns! Purolator ONE PL14006

I have directly contacted every major oil filter manufacture, and inquired about to confirm the filtration efficiency for filters for specific applications. L98 engines, LT1 engines and now LS engines. I’ve never before received a response that claimed 99% at 17 microns per ISO 4548-12 . I get...

    99% at 17 microns! Purolator ONE PL14006

Fwiw - as soon as I saw the 17 micron response I replied to ask / confirm ISO 4548-12. I didn’t ask about a spec sheet. I’m pretty sure you all have functioning emails 😜 so if you want the spec sheet contact Purolator and ask for it. If they give you the exact same info as they’ve given me along...

    99% at 17 microns! Purolator ONE PL14006

I bought a new-to-me 2001 Corvette Z06, and another C5 owner said he thought the PL14006 was 99@20. I didn't think this was true so I emailed Purolator Tech support today and was blown away by the reply:
