I "flew" an Airbus A320 in a simulator

I believe it was around C$130. We'll be eating stale crusts of bread and drinking brackish water for a few weeks. 😉

Unfortunately not - but it was surprising how real it felt when the horizon tilted as we banked into a turn.

Nissan latest - Asking suppliers to pause payments..

With the exception of Nissan's very innovative variable-compression engines. 😳 Full marks for innovation, but I suspect they'll be problematic.

Nah, that only works on a Boeing. J/K!!! Agreed, it was a very thoughtful gift. She is a really good person.

A last hurrah for the manual transmission

I think Ford trucks of that era used a Mazda MT. We likely had the same in our late, great 1990 MPV van. Very nice shifting. Too bad about the 2.73; whatever rear end the MPV had, it buzzed along quite happily at 2500 RPM in 5th at 100 kph (62 mph).

I "flew" an Airbus A320 in a simulator

This was a delightful gift from my wife. We took off from YYJ (Victoria BC, on Vancouver Island), and did a short hop over to YVR (Vancouver BC). Then we attempted several landings here (YWG - Winnipeg Richardson International). We may have been able to walk away from one or two landings. I...

A last hurrah for the manual transmission

And I remember when 5-speeds were a big deal ... :sneaky: The first one I remember is the '75 Toyota Corolla SR5. My '71 Corolla 1600 with the 4-speed didn't have a tach. I bet it was revving pretty high at 60 MPH. We have one remaining MT vehicle in the extended family - a 2009 Mazda5 with...

A last hurrah for the manual transmission

4th and 5th on the column sounds weird to us here (in North America), but during our year in NZ I did drive two vans (Mitsu Delica and Toyota HiAce) with column-mounted 5-speed shifters. I liked them. But apparently 6-speed MTs have around for a while now. I haven't driven one yet.

A last hurrah for the manual transmission

If they were trying to replicate the old 3-on-the-tree (though they didn't get the shift pattern quite right) as found in my '63 Biscayne, there must be no synchro into 1st! 😉

A last hurrah for the manual transmission

Of course I wanted oil pressure and a voltmeter as well. 😁

A last hurrah for the manual transmission

    Here's a dash-mounted 3-speed manual, alive and well at a local playground.

Nissan latest - Asking suppliers to pause payments..

The Nissans I really liked were are sold here as Datsuns - the 1000, the 510, the B210, and the 240Z, and the 620 Sport Truck. I guess I'm showing my age.

    The future of vehicles....

I've heard people say that GM's high-water mark was 1965 - hard to believe that's now 60 years ago.

What are you eating right now?

That's the same cover as the edition I read c. 1975. The C$ and USD were near parity back then, so they may have listed only the one price. I think $2.25 would have been fairly expensive for a paperback back then - IIRC, a lot of the old SF I used to enjoy had a cover price of 95¢ - $1.25.

A couple of random bike photos

Sr citizens - a 1987 Bianchi Grizzly, and a 2002 Rocky Mountain Fusion. What's that in bike years? This was early morning in front of the Y. I liked the way the low sun was reflecting off the bikes. The phone camera did not do it justice. ******* Waiting for a slow train to pass, while out...

What are you eating right now?

I'm reminded of reading Wilson Bryan Key's "Subliminal Seduction" many years ago, about hidden messages in advertising, etc. I think a lot of it has since been debunked. Even so, perhaps Wendy is promoting a subconscious vision of cold winters, deep snow, howling winds, etc., in hopes of...

    Lock car at night

Relatives in a really nice area in another city experience car break-ins regularly, as do others in their upscale neighbourhood. Many there have taken to leaving their cars unlocked, and removing all valuables at night instead. It's preferable to broken windows, jimmied doors, scratched paint...

    Trax overheated today..

I suspect the minor leak in the rad, and the seeping IM gaskets, were not allowing the cooling system to reach its rated pressure, besides which the system was probably consistently slightly low on coolant. No problems since those repairs.
