Which Oil Drain Valve do you use? Fumuto? Valvomax?

Agreed, although there's the oil filter too. But overall there's much less mess.

    2014 Nissan Murano CVT fluid

Thanks, this is good information. I didn't have a pan gasket on hand. I'll ask the owner if she wants me to drop the pan and clean things up. Is there an internal filter I should replace at the same time?

    2014 Nissan Murano CVT fluid

Earlier today I did a CVT fluid drain-and-fill with Castrol Transmax. I was impressed there was a dipstick for the fluid, and a drain plug on the transmission pan. The old fluid was quite dark - it pretty much looked like used motor oil coming out. The CVT feels very smooth. Hopefully this...

    guys over 50 doing maintenance

Coming up on 68 next month, and still wondering how I got to be the same age as old people and who that wrinkly grizzled old guy in the mirror is. But still doing as much in the way of maintenance and repairs as I can. The body is holding up well so far, but I'm sure it's coming.

Smoke from egr valve exhaust On V8

Those old heat stoves were a good idea for cold climes. I think on Chevys they were branded something like AC AutoThermac. My older Japanese cars had a manual equivalent - there was a wing nut on the air-cleaner housing, and instructions to slide a moveable panel on the housing to one position...

Little Glenn Cambell and Jimmy Webb for a Good Friday listening

I saw Glen Campbell perform outdoors at the Red River Ex back in 1986. Great show! Jimmy Webb is simply amazing. He has written so much good music. The Wiki article on him is interesting.

Which Oil Drain Valve do you use? Fumuto? Valvomax?

Changed oil yesterday with the Valvomax - nice and clean compared to using a drain pan.

    Self-deprecating Prius Humour

A tent trailer would have been well within the tow-rating, I'm pretty sure, especially without much frontal area. That does sound more like a poorly designed or built transmission.

    Sub Inflation

No idea, I had not eaten there in a long time. It was the only nearby place open c. 10:30 p.m. I checked our local prices after posting - typically also $12.xx, but in C$, so far cheaper.

Stellantis TSB for 6.7 diesel engine tick - Tunap 955 oil additive

I remember GM's EOS from the late 1970s - heavy on moly IIRC.

    Sub Inflation

Subway in Richmond California was $13.99 for a 12" sub a few weeks ago. That was US$ too, so double the sticker-shock for me. In general, I don't know how people can afford to live in the SF Bay area.

Article on the effect of auto tariffs on Canada.

Yes, Quebec is very European in some ways. The smoking is part of it for sure.

Article on the effect of auto tariffs on Canada.

Quebec vehicles are infamous for being rusty. A lot of them have been smoked in too. However, Quebecers seem to like manual transmissions, so that's a plus.

Clutch system: can this happen withOUT master/slave cylinder failing?

@d00df00d, I recommend checking the clutch master cylinder from inside - when mine failed, it leaked into the passenger compartment. You'll see where the push rod contacts the clutch pedal; feel along the push rod toward the clutch MC. If it's wet with brake fluid, there's your leak.

Clutch Master Cylinder for Mazda5 - Recommendations?

My cost from Rock Auto was C$111.50 before the 5% discount. I added three oil filters which didn't increase the shipping cost, so all-in my cost (for the FTE clutch master cylinder, three filters, shipping, and sales tax) was C$160.85. Not bad at all. I probably used another C$20 worth of...

    Lovely aftermarket parts

Around 1999 I bought a Bosch alternator for our '85 Mazda 626. It came with a 5-year warranty. It died after about 3-1/2 years, and Canadian Tire replaced it (that is, gave me a new one for me to install) at no cost. Not long after, I noticed that they had dropped the warranty to 3 years...

Clutch Master Cylinder for Mazda5 - Recommendations?

It's done. Phew! Had to bleed a lot of air out at the slave cylinder (not surprisingly). The car drives great - I suspect the clutch MC had been leaking for a long time. The clutch feels better than it has in years. I lost the clutch when we were heading out for a family holiday a few years...

Finally able to pay it forward!

Went out for coffee and good talk with a friend this past Monday evening. He pulled into the parking spot and his door was immediately blocked by a very whiny and tattered older man who pleaded for $20 to buy food. My friend is very generous, and has a big heart for the poor, but had no cash...
