What to do with gallons of DEX III atf

My mailman burns used ATF in his diesel truck. There must be someone in your neighborhood that would be happy to have 25 gallons for fuel.

do you use free AI tools?

I have been resistant to AI. While my browser gives me AI responses to questions and searches, I didn't intentionally set it up. But last week I met with my financial advisor to go over some tax strategy planning. He has an AI that he uses specifically for financial planning scenarios. It...

Rotting Out a Tree Stump - What Has Worked For You?

I understand. I have three neighbors that have burned out tree stumps. One neighbor simply set a bag of charcoal on top of the stump and lit it. It did burn for days. But when he was done, he still had an outer ring. Another neighbor drilled holes and poured in diesel fuel, and lit it about...

Rotting Out a Tree Stump - What Has Worked For You?

That is my backup plan. I drilled a bunch of holes in it with a 5/8" spade bit, and then filled the holes with Roundup concentrate, like @Capt W described, and had great success with. I've let the Roundup soak in real good for a few days, and yesterday I soaked the stump with water and covered...

Good YT video on trying to make something in the USA

I worked at the Nucor Plymouth, UT plant for a while. Another great example of what can be done when a bunch of people get together and imagine what they want, design, and go to work making it happen. For a company that operates very lean, it was amazing how quickly that could accomplish what...

Good YT video on trying to make something in the USA

What if there is another Covid breakout, and it cripples our economy? What if Mexico raises their minimum wage to match the USA? We can't live by what if fears, over things that may never happen. But I suspect we are much more prepared for such things than most people realize. The company I...

Good YT video on trying to make something in the USA

Lodge cookware and Henry rifles both come to mind. Pendleton blankets. Before I retired, I visited a lot of automotive suppliers. Some in Canada and Mexico, but mostly here in the USA. All kinds of stamping, casting and fabrication businesses. Too many to list, scattered all over the Mid West.

And Toyota. And Volkswagen, Nisan, Mercedes, Honda, Subaru, just to name a few, all have significant manufacturing presence here in the USA. Someone may say, "well, yea, but they all include imported parts." To me, I don't understand the all or nothing mentality. I'm ok with Subaru using...

MB 7 Speed transmission fill adapter

Different perspectives, but I find it a pretty cool design. What a simple method to get the right level of ATF in the system. And your concern about time to get it in there is not needed. It only takes a few minutes. I use a 2 gallon garden sprayer that I bought just for filling ATF fluid...

Good YT video on trying to make something in the USA

I'm old enough to remember, when Sam Walton was still alive, that Made in the USA was a huge part of Walmart strategy. I still remember the displays in the Walmart stores, that would proudly proclaim that an items was American made. That all went away pretty quickly when his kids took over.

Good YT video on trying to make something in the USA

Having worked in a manufacturing plant that was shut down, when the production was moved to a sister plant in Mexico, I am always willing to buy American. But sometimes I feel that I am the only one on the bus. An example is something as simple as garden tools - shovels, rakes, mattocks...

Is the Chevron gas THAT much better?

I'm no English major, but shouldn't that read "We don't make a lot of the products you buy. We make a lot of the products you buy, better."?

Rotting Out a Tree Stump - What Has Worked For You?

When I was a kid, a neighbor would use rock salt to preserve deer hides. If I understand correctly, the rock salt would draw the moisture out of the deer hide, so it would not rot. From what I have learned, rock salt does the same thing to tree stumps. I decided to go the Roundup method. I...

Rotting Out a Tree Stump - What Has Worked For You?

Did you use straight concentrate? Or "Ready to Use"? Or some other concentrate, somewhere between? I'm looking for actual experience that fellow BITOG members have had success with. But I would be all over trying your idea . . . if my goal was to end up on the 10 o'clock news.

German lug bolts are better than ROW lug nuts, true?

There are definitely pros and cons to both lug nuts and lug bolts. I've had to have my share of wheel studs replaced, primarily because of overzealous service techs at Discount Tire. Replacing studs are harder on some cars than others. A definite disadvantage to the lug nut/stud design. My...

Rotting Out a Tree Stump - What Has Worked For You?

I've heard that the rock salt and epsom salt don't work, and if anything, tend to have a preserving effect. The salts draw out the moisture from the tree stump. For the tree stump to rot, you want to keep it moist, like what you did with the oak stump, so fungus will grow and rot the stump...

Rotting Out a Tree Stump - What Has Worked For You?

I hadn't thought about stump grinder rentals. I can get one local for $66/4 hours. That may be a good option. If I did get it ground down below ground level, and wanted to speed up the decay process, what works for other?

Fortunately, it is not in a lawn. But it is in an area where I would like to plant a small tree variety, perhaps next year, if I can clear out the area well enough. I've already cut out all the roots that were close to the surface, but I'm sure there are more roots that are deeper.

The stump diameter is about 10". It was some type of long needle pine, so soft wood.
