Car prices to rise due to tariffs and certain vehicles possibly ...

Didn't the US lead in semiconductor production up to the very early '90's? I remember reading an article on the subject, back with TI was hot and heavy into developing superconductors, and I vaguely recall that between Texas Instruments, National Semiconductor, Micron and a few others, we led...

Thread for photos that 100% do not violate any Terms Of Service, not political, not too lewd, no gas price pics etc.

That, I could do without any grief from the master of the house. Please share when finished.

Car prices to rise due to tariffs and certain vehicles possibly ...

I get it. But whenever we have a thread on a subject that walks the line, there will always be those that step over that line. Just look above. At least this time, it took more than the first 5 posts . . . but not by much.

Pablo, how do you get away with doing woodworking projects in the house? I would get my but chewed out royally.

Guess Ford understands marketing significantly more than me "Quilted French stitched Truffle leather"

Oh, yea baby! That's what I'm talking about. That's not a work truck. That is for the guy that just bought a 38' gooseneck camping trailer, thinks an F350 just isn't big enough to pull it with, and wants to ride in the lap of luxury when he is vacationing. No reason to step down from the...

Car buyer from online auction, trying to scam me?

Is the car you are selling unique enough to explain why a buyer would drive 10-12 hours to buy it? I get it if it is special. I drove 8 hours to buy my SL550. Or if the price is a great deal. I drove 6 hours to pick up my wife's X5, to save a few thousand. But if there is no good...

What is something you learned about your car after you owned it?

Okay, the first one is a little embarrassing, as I suspect most everyone here knows this, but it took me a year or two to learn it on my wife's '13 Outback, that if you want to open an auto window only part way, that you press the window button only to the first stop, and pressing it all the way...

Amazon. Legit manufacturers and sellers. Are there two+ versions of "soft" products?

The thought that a company would make a less expensive version for Amazon had never crossed my mind. I'm not saying it doesn't happen, but it seems a little difficult, especially considering that most of what I buy on Amazon isn't even sold by Amazon. But I do think Amazon saves a lot of money...

Distilled water for mixing engine coolant?

I know that water can be over purified, to the point where it is looking for minerals to add to itself. I've seen it. But simple distilled water is not that. Many years ago, I was managing a test lab. Among the capabilities we had were a salt fog corrosion chamber and an environmental...

    Battery Charging Voltage

I've got it set for flooded (STD) and am charging at 10 amps. I just did a few Google searches on the subject. From what I can see, 14.7 vdc is generally considered the maximum charge voltage. Does this seem right?

    Battery Charging Voltage

No. It was still in the charging mode, and had not yet started the "desulfation" mode. Now that you mention it, I think I've seen voltages as high as 15.5 vdc, when it is in the "desulfation" mode.

    Battery Charging Voltage

While charging a battery today with my Pro-Logix battery charger, I noticed that it is charging at 15 vdc. I verified the voltage with my Fluke, and it showed 14.97 - 14.98 vdc. This raised the question, what is the maximum voltage that a 12 volt auto battery can be charged at, without...

People gas it so you cant switch lanes?

Don't you think that is a very simplistic understanding of life? In real life, there are interactions all the time, where one may inconvenience another totally unintentionally, without even being aware that they did so. It does not mean that they think "they are the only people in the world"...

    Post your dry dog food

This is good information! When we got our Yorkie, the breeder was feeding her Taste of the Wild puppy food. I switched her to Hill's Small & Mini. The label lists whole grain corn as the 4th ingredient. My recent research found that Hill's Science Diet dog foods are rated pretty low, so I...

People gas it so you cant switch lanes?

I don't need to see turn signals to know when another driver is thinking about cutting in front of me. I can just tell. I would think most of us can.

People gas it so you cant switch lanes?

Oh, yea. Happens all the time. Admittedly, I sometimes do it too. It can be frustrating when you are trying to maintain a safe distance between you and the car in front of you, and someone who comes up from a few spots behind, sees the space as an opportunity to move up. If you let him in...

Space Medicine and the Return to Earth

When I read the article, I drew a comparison between the effects of long-term space travel, and the effects upon mountain climbers that climb Mt. Everest. There seems to be no question that both astronauts and mountain climbers share a very similar motivation. Even though they realize that...
