Rav4 is globally no. 1 again

Maybe 4-5k of those global Model Y sales in 2025 might have an Asterix. And maybe some the 2024 sales too. https://driving.ca/auto-news/industry/tesla-ev-rebates-canada-investigation-freeze-incentive Tesla claimed to sell 8600 vehicle in 72 hours at 4 dealerships, to claim the $5k per...

    Manual transmission used daily

Eh, they seem to blow engines? I don't recall there being too much rev hang in the regular 2012 Focus I test drove, but that was a long time ago. The 12-18 Focus is a nice car to drive, with the manual. I might've got the 2012 but it was leaking oil from the AC compressor and the dealer...

2019 Hyundai Santa Fe - Rear shocks - OEM or KYB

Maybe just get KYB in protest for poor OEM quality... I hate it when manufacturers cheap out on parts, but at least these are easy to replace.

    Manual transmission used daily

A Focus up to 2007 has a throttle cable! I prefer the 04-07 duratecs. A mazda3 2.0 of the same era is a great little drivers car, the trick for them is to find one without too much rust, but just wait and watch one to pop up and then grab it.

2019 Hyundai Santa Fe - Rear shocks - OEM or KYB

6 years is pretty bad for OEM, in my experience KYB lasts longer than that. Our Outback has overly soft rear damping, so I will be going to KYB when the time comes, but I guess if you are happy with how the OEM once worked, then just get them again. KYB do tend to be noticeably firmer than OEM...

    Overpriced truck; '97 F-350.

Most buyers of a truck like that here, will make sure it won't see winter here again. I saw a couple nice 60's F100's today, just someone's summer truck, and lots of older trucks come out once the salt is washed off the roads. A buddy just bought a late 90's Dodge Ram, 4x4, quad-cab 8' bed with...

New tire needed for 5-10K miles--how important is it to match?

Just stick the new tire on one of the rear corners and burn down the others to 4/32, then get 3 new ones, and rotate them once in a while. Also measure the others yourself, part of them may already be at 4/32? A new tire won't affect alignment at all, so its fine to run a full tread depth tire...

    Most reliable used simple/basic vehicle

Yes, the OP has a good stable job, so I'd look at cost per year, if the local car market seems to over value the bottom end. A $5-6k well maintained car that probably needs nothing but fuel and an oil change for a couple years, is better than a $3-4k beater with little maintenance and problems...

    Dealership negotiations...

Also I used carcostcanada.com, (I think unhaggle.com is similar?)to find out the invoice price(not easily found in Canada), and it put my inquiry right to the sales manager at the local dealership, I talked to him on the phone and had a email quote from another dealer for a low km demo, and they...

    Dealership negotiations...

Well, they will almost certainly try! But, do some homework on what a good price should be, and then offer that, and either buy or leave depending on their answer.

    Most reliable used simple/basic vehicle

The early ones had fairly common major transmission problems, and the Energi version had a few more problems as well. I was hopeful it was a just a Ford Prius(ford licenced the CVT from toyota), but my research showed that Ford's drivetrain engineers managed to screw up one of the simplest and...

    long distance logistics profitable?

I guess its a cheap way to get just enough money spent for "free shipping" My favorite items to add is either the silly apple charger cables, or bags of my favorite cereal, and they kind of act like packing material anyways in the standard boxes. Water at amazon.ca is about 4-8 times the price...

    Most reliable used simple/basic vehicle

I think the most reliable VW that I have talked to the owner personally is my buddies late 2000's TDI, and it runs very well, except its cam is grinding itself flat.... Anyone else seems to have had Christmas tree dash and other random sensor and start problems, or is topping up coolant and oil...

This is what is scary about VW. Here's the car-part.com list of transmissions available for a 2011 Jetta. AT, 2.5L, transmission ID HRM AT, 2.5L, transmission ID JUJ AT, 2.0L, gasoline, transmission ID KGQ AT, 2.5L, transmission ID KBV AT, 2.5L, transmission ID KGL AT, 2.0L, gasoline...

    Most reliable used simple/basic vehicle

A fwd 2013-6 CX-5 should be pretty cheap now? They even had a manual available, but I read they had some issues with popping out of 3rd and 4th. 35 cuft of cargo space is nice too.

    long distance logistics profitable?

I guess air freight is better at hauling boxes of air, than a 400lb dumbbell set! I'm curious what is the heaviest cheap chunks of metal or jugs of fluid you have loaded from amazon?

A local critter just try to cool off.(Pic)

Wow, we we're in the area and it wasn't mentioned... We did quite a bit of mountain biking and for snakes, the locals just said to stay out of the long grass and avoid any odd looking "stick" on the trail!

Sienna: can she use these 225 on 235 size van

225/65R17 usually has the same load rating as a 235/60R17, and are super common and cheaper. Used sets of good brands should be very common too, perhaps already on rims that fit the van on facebook. Or at the local used tire place if you want to save a few hundred bucks.

I was in the wrong and I don't care.

Wow, that is a bit toasty! How much water and salt do you take in a day like that? I have worked in similar heat filling a hay barn to the roof with squares, but I was 15 so I survived pretty well, but I do remember coming down the hay elevator and 90F feeling quite cool!

Minivans eat tires…anyone put XL rated tires on?

I had bad alignment wear and some squirrely behaviour on ice, on the rear of my Focus wagon, from too much toe in and negative camber(at the limits of "in spec" but too much when combined!). I went to an alignment shop and told him what I wanted, minimal negative camber and toe in, and it...
