Easiest way to attack upper shock nuts?

Looks like you have sufficient room to use a nut splitter.

    Need an adequate gaming computer.

Do you have the skills to build your own PC? Perhaps your 14 year-old would be interested in learning how to build a PC? When I built gaming PCs, I went to sites like Tom's Hardware to look at their builds and chose a motherboard which is the foundation of a good build. Then I chose the other...

How many of you DO NOT change your ATF—CVT—DCT/DSG fluid

I didn't change ATF in my first car, a 1971 Plymouth. Transmission still worked fine when I sold it after 13 years, about 170,000 miles. Since then, no more of that nonsense; I change the fluid. I've never had a transmission issue or failure.

    New car~?

I'm inspired by the Keep Your Car posts. In 14 months my Nissan will be 25 years old (DOM 10/1999). In Arizona, this qualifies for a Historic Vehicle license plate. The regular plate has faded and is almost illegible.

    New car~?

Normally, I would drive my 2000 Maxima until it's totally worn out. Given its age and miles, the most likely item to break is a timing chain guide. Unfortunately, the next car I want to buy is a Toyota Hybrid, which is in very short supply and waiting lists are about 6-12 months.

Interesting comments from one of my former students on housing

In my neighborhood, single story ranch houses built on small lots in the 50's are torn down and replaced with two story homes selling for about $2M.

State inspection results in car being taken off the road because of rust?

I have to agree with you based on watching a YouTube channel, Wham Baam Teslacam. Every week, there are lots of crashes caused by failure to pay attention, drivers on the phone, drivers speeding on dry pavement in heavy traffic, speeding on wet pavement or heavy rain, impatient drivers who...

    MPG vs HTHS

I changed from the recommended 0W-20 to 5W-30 on a 5th generation Toyota 4Runner driven in Phoenix to have a higher HTHS. Given my annual mileage and MPG, a 1% loss in fuel efficiency equates to an extra 5 gallons of fuel consumed in a year. It's not worth my time and effort attempting to...

    Please recommend TPMS Replacements

Did you and Rand read the second paragraph? OP wrote, "I could have the tire shop remove the old tires from the steelies and re-use the TPMS's, or I could buy a new set..." Obviously, the tire shop has to remove worn out tires to recycle them, which leaves the still working OEM sensors exposed...

    Please recommend TPMS Replacements

My Toyota OEM TPMS sensors are 12 years and 2 months old and still working in Phoenix, AZ. Why are you replacing yours at 5.5 years when they are still working?

Replace boot on FWD CV joint, or replace halfshaft?

I also recommend replacing boots on OEM axles when the joints are still OK as in your case. If you don't do it yourself, I suggest finding a shop that specializes in driveline repairs and ask if they reboot rather than replace and what they recommend. Driveline specialists are more likely to...

Do you preemptively purchase a new battery at a specific time interval?

Chemman has a very good approach for detecting a weak battery. I've been living in Phoenix AZ since 1981 and I can't remember any battery lasting longer than four years. I'm over 70 and don't want to be stranded by a dead battery in this heat. Five months ago, I decided to replace a battery...

Lucas red and tacky running out of parts.

How long did it take to accumulate that much dirt on the spindle? Perhaps the ball joint rubber boot is cracked or worn. How old is it and how many miles?

Lucas red and tacky running out of parts.

I'm in Phoenix Arizona which is obliterating the temperature record for consecutive days above 110 F. I use R&T in the U-joints of my 4WD 4Runner. I think the yokes are showing more oil film covered with dirt than it did when I last lubricated it 4 months ago. I'll lube it again when the weather...
