Keeping a car in Storage (Change the oil ? )

I say if you don't drive it at all, maybe a handful of miles then 5 years max. Old oil that's been ran a little in 5 years does weird stuff, acts like it doesn't want to stick to metal. 4 is probably a better absolute max with very low mileage like 300 to 500 miles.

LF16006 ran for 2 years, 788hrs, first oil change on Cummins 6.7L common rail

    If that's beta 100 for 24.6mu that's not terrible.

    Amsoil EaBP90 C&P after 20k miles & 3.5 yrs

Looks like the fleetguard I just cut open. Synthetic media with little dots pressed into it.

    full flow vs bypass

I bought a 6mu "bypass filter" last week. It had a small 1mm hole in it that allowed oil to slowly flow through the filter. It said it was rated for 7 to 9gpm, clearly that is not the case. A hole that small is only going to allow about 1qt per minute to flow at normal return pressures. I went...

    Reclaimed Oil for push mower.

I found one my generator bearings are marked SCH ATZ. One of those means rubber bearing covers and the other one is for the grease. These probably aren't the absolute best ones but I looked up the grease they use. It's called aeroshell22. An advanced synthetic aerospace industry Grease with...

    Reclaimed Oil for push mower.

Take a "greaseable one" apart and you'll see why. The 4 digit number is your bearing size and then the 2 or 3 suffix or sets of suffixes are your bearing type if a special bearing material is used, grease type if a special one is used and seal type. Certain ones are used on generators. I'll...

There can be only one. Most efficient fuel filter.

This one might be better. I think they're used on later Detroits with electronically fired injectors. Only problem is it's a 13/16-12 thread. Can I get a 13/16-12 thread filter head? Probably. Its glass and glass usually does better than paper in the efficiency department. But in the cost...

LF16006 ran for 2 years, 788hrs, first oil change on Cummins 6.7L common rail

The main event. Bonus event: I cut out some of the filter pleats, wrapped them in a wad of McDonald's napkins and squeezing them in my vice. We'll see what they look like later today or tonight hopefully.

LF16006 ran for 2 years, 788hrs, first oil change on Cummins 6.7L common rail

30k miles is still only around a thousand hours. So it's a third to a half of the saftykleen all time records and it costs at least 3 times as much. For 3x the price it better be able to do a thousand hours. I buy all the clearance oil I can find thats 30wt or thicker. 70% to 80% of the...

LF16006 ran for 2 years, 788hrs, first oil change on Cummins 6.7L common rail

I don't see anyone running hpl or amsoil for 700 to 3,400 hours so I am forced to the conclusion that Safetykleen 15w-40 is the best diesel engine oil for diesel engines out there. Reclaim oil is just the cheapest, at best its fair condition oil and suitable for use in an engine for another...

    How to tax EVs

Since clearly EVs need government baby daddy to help sell them and the tax credit is going away I say continue the cheap registration if the states want to, if the states want to slap a tax on them equivalent to running a gas car 40,000 miles per year on top of what one would normally pay for...

LF16006 ran for 2 years, 788hrs, first oil change on Cummins 6.7L common rail

Found another one that was intentionally almost forgotten about. I've got a Cummins 6.7L common rail, 3 years old, in-service for 2 years, oil is saftykleen put in there 2 years ago, 15w-40 (the best stuff on earth), oil filter is a rusty top, 80% painted over fleetguard LF16006. Application is...

Oil for slightly neglected ford explorer 4L sohc

The PP frankenjug mix is doing it's thing. It's got 750 road trip miles and a thousand total miles on this oci on it and already is starting to look like 3,000 to 4,000 mile oil in a well kept vehicle. The "PP flush" is delivering results. I'll do a little 200 mile round trip run tomorrow...

    Reclaimed Oil for push mower.

Greaseable spindles are useless. Best bet is knock the old bearing out and replace them when possible. I've found "generator bearings" to be fairly durable. Sometimes the spindle housing breaks and you can't. But when you can save the housing, knock out the old bearing, press on new ones and...
