250000 mile Chrysler 3.8 under valve cover view…Wow.

Get out a knife and fork for that one. You can eat off it. If the valve train is that spotless, you can bet the rest of the drivetrain should be similarly well kept. Mopar made some lovely V6s into the late 90s, right before Mercedes hijacked them and stole all their money. That deal should...

Ford Cuts Mach-E prices by thousands

FoMoCo has been milking the Mustang marque for over 50 years now. Just ask all those people who bought Mustang IIs, which was in many ways a Pinto with a vinyl roof and racing stripes. We've got one of these battery powered, four door 'Mustangs' down the street from us. It never leaves the...

    Just bought a 2012 Volvo XC60

Volvo recommends 7,500 on yours. While over 7 qts. is more than the older Volvos used to use, it's still not in the league of the Big German swimming pool sized sumps. So I'd keep it at 7,500 max no matter what you use. I'm not sure who Volvo used for OE filters on that one. On the later...

    Just bought a 2012 Volvo XC60

Yes. I have the full IPD package on our '06 R. I don't track it anymore (too old now), but it was a fun drive at Watkins Glen for a few years. Those sorts of Volvos you sometimes need to be more careful about the fluids. But not so much on the OP's.

    Just bought a 2012 Volvo XC60

I don't think it's quite so dire with that 2012. That 3.2 is a normally aspirated, regular fuel, lower output engine, with a 7 quart sump. As I mentioned above, that one just doesn't work too hard. Ford had dumbed them down a little from the older ones by then (no offense intended to the...

    Just bought a 2012 Volvo XC60

Lititz! Well, if they ever close shop, Marco Motors out in Collegeville is just a short trip down the Turnpike for you. It's second generation now. Howard was a master Volvo mechanic, but has long retired. But his sons now run it, and learned well from Dad. The only place in S.E. Pa. that...

    Just bought a 2012 Volvo XC60

I'll have to disagree with you there. The old white blocks were surprisingly durable. Dare I say almost as sturdy as the old red blocks. And they had an odd cylinder rumble like no other. Sort of a muted growl. I was well into the 300,000s on one without a blower, and the engine still...

    Just bought a 2012 Volvo XC60

That's a pretty solid drivetrain that doesn't work too hard. The older XCs used to have a lot of drivetrain problems if you didn't keep up with them. But most of the issues were ironed out by 2012. As others have mentioned, just keep using a 5w30 synthetic on a regular interval, and it should...

    I’m tired of manual transmission

The reason none of the kids today know how to drive a manual is because they need both hands to operate their cell phones ... We still have at least one manual. I still prefer them for the open road. And when I used to track them it was a must. For a lot of years, I would special...

Continental Extreme Contact DWS 06 Plus

Let’s put it this way. If a Michelin is unavailable for the vehicle, a Continental is almost always my next choice. That’s high praise. I’ve never been stranded on a Conti, and have never had to pull one from service. They are great on trucks I’m told. And at the other end of the spectrum...

Continental Extreme Contact DWS 06 Plus

I never stated that these tires couldn't be balanced. Or that all of them were a tough balance. Some took a few more weights to get there than some others. But all balanced given the effort. I just happen to have a mechanic who I've known for many years who is willing to convey more backroom...

    Brake fluid change topic

If you've got the time for a gravity flush, it generally won't hurt a thing. You're mainly doing the same thing a pressure unit will do, just much much much ... much ... more slowly. Works for you. That's all that matters.

Continental Extreme Contact DWS 06 Plus

No. But some of the responses and questions to my original comment I find a little nonsensical. As I mentioned above, I've been using this particular tire series for nearly 20 years now on a variety of vehicles. In total, we've probably been through at least a couple dozen of these tires over...

Continental Extreme Contact DWS 06 Plus

I don’t know. At least at 2 points. Should we ask the 55 year old mechanic to video it for you and put it on TicTok? He’d laugh you out of the shop as he showed you the door. You of course understand that we are talking about adhesive weights used on better alloy wheels, and not the clip on...

    Brake fluid change topic

I don’t know about all the debates here. I do notice they tend to repeat themselves here after every so many years. I see people are still here debating over oil filter shelf life. I thought that debate was finally settled in 2007. Or was it 2012? And I’m now at the point where I don’t...

No. Not that bad. I would be looking at the wheel more closely on that one.

ACDelco Standard duty vs Heavy Duty Air Filters

All I've ever run in our GMT900 have been the A3085C high capacity ones. No pre filters. Just a slightly beefier element. They all have black gaskets. Never had any issues with them, and no mileage drops. Maybe the newer GM trucks now use different ones.

    Dumb tire shops

I had a buddy in the very early 90s who had a Taurus SHO. A really nice one, black leather interior, manual tranny and all. Took it to the Ford dealer for a routine tire rotation and the usual oil/filter thing. Was driving it home down the highway, and one of the front wheels just dropped off...

    Brake fluid change topic

In the older American DOT3 systems, I tend to agree with you. They don't work that hard, and the systems are more rugged and basic. I don't think I ever did a brake flush on one, outside of with a brake job, on anything made going back into the 60s. But in the newer DOT4 and 5 systems, or any...

Continental Extreme Contact DWS 06 Plus

It is what it is, at least on the upper performance tier models. Still a good tire, if not as precisely made as the Michelins. With the latest Michelins, they're not broke, so I don't try to fix them with something else. They do drain the wallet much harder. These Contis are a $200 high...
