I am replacing slide pin boots on every brake pad change

Are we talking about pin bushings? To me the "boot" is the bellows part that keeps the elements out of the pin bore. You can run without the rubber pin bushing. They're more of a noise reduction device.

    Cub Cadet transmission/hydraulic fluid

Back around 2005 when I owned my cub 2544 rider that also had a HG BDU series drive that drives the Cub cast iron trans axle I researched the expensive Cub Cadet Drive System Fluid Plus. I'm not sure it's even called that today. At the time I even had a correspondence going with someone from...

2023 Blazer - Pick my filter

Yessir. Poor wording on my part. I get all excited over thicker cans.

2021 Chevy Traverse uneven pad wear

Oh there was! There was only very light corrosion under the abutment clips surprisingly. Of course the aluminum wheels were corroded onto the rotors badly and the rotors were corroded to the hubs. Some of the lugnuts are swollen with the outer jackets cracked and they were on crazy tight...

2021 Chevy Traverse uneven pad wear

Like I said, surprisingly they were very well lubed and moving freely. I disassembled, cleaned and re-lubed with 3M pure silicone grease anyway, as I would with any brake job.

2021 Chevy Traverse uneven pad wear

My darling bride notified me at 6pm yesterday that her Traverse is making a bad scraping noise from the front. "It started last week, went away, now it's back and constant". I took it for a quick test drive and only had to go a couple hundred feed to know it was brake related and coming from...

2023 Blazer - Pick my filter

It may not be BITOG's flavor of the month, but it's an option for you if nothing else. You can mail order them for about $10/ea all-in off RA. I've been running them on my 2021 Equinox 1.5T and 2021 Traverse 3.6L at a 4500-5000mi OCI, at least until my 5yr/60K warranty is up. I'm close...

2023 Blazer - Pick my filter

I don't understand GMs take on that. The UPF66R has a higher bypass because it has a thicker can and "better" media. They're the same filter. The PF66 is the "standard" and the UPF66R is the "premium" version.

Talk to me about oil catch cans and intake valve deposits

I would easily get 2x that amount in that mileage with the winter temps I get. So much so, that I bought the can extension from J&L that doubled the stock capacity. This is with all highway use as well. J&L makes a nice product and the install is so simple, clean and easy to undo on the...

OCI for 2.0L Turbo DI Chevy Blazer + Oil Recommendations

I don't, other than the very limited info I could gather online. Last spring I was interested in a couple of used 2021 GMC Acadias with the LSY 2.0T and did a bunch of poking around then, but wound up going with my 2021 Equinox 1.5T. The LSY is a neat looking engine. It uses a cam tower as...

OCI for 2.0L Turbo DI Chevy Blazer + Oil Recommendations

I think you know this by now given this thread is old, but you have a very different 2.0T in your 2023 Blazer than the video you linked. Night n day differt. LSY not an LTG.

How long is your oil change interval? How about the UPF66R?

    guys over 50 doing maintenance

I'm only 54, so the physical aspect of the job scopes I'll do isn't too bad, other than maybe tearing up my hands more than they're already tore up. I enjoy PM work on my vehicles and I've always done my own brake work, minor exhaust work, minor electrical, component swaps, and my own rust...

Talk to me about oil catch cans and intake valve deposits

In my mind, a CC is going to capture oil that will not have to fly through your intake valve ports. The question is, how much better will that prevent IVDs for your specific situation, vs leaving it stock? Too many variables to measure. I had a J&L catch can kit installed on my 2022 Nissan...

    Keeping workers

In 1985, my parents paid $50K for their second home on 2.5 acres and they stressed over how they were going to pay the mortgage. Blue collar middle class family of 6. Dad worked 2 jobs into the early 1970s. Mom worked part time to supplement when we were all in school. Their first home was...

Drinking and driving, a reminder you never want to be in.

An older co-worker of mine has not been able to work again after being rear-ended at a high rate of speed by a drunk driver with bare minimum insurance and no money/assets. This happened 3-4yrs ago and he's still fighting the legal aspects of it and suffering severe neck/back injury. We all...

    Old window sticker I found

That is awesome. I love to see those old window stickers. All of those add-ons don't equal one current day shady dealer "processing fee".

Why are vinyl seats no longer an option?

You were able to get vinyl seats and a "rubber" floor on Ram 1500 classic pickups right up to ~2024 as far I know. Not sure if this carried through on the 5th gen Ram 1500s or other light trucks.

    Mazda Quality

I still think rust is a problem for Mazda for those of us in rust prone climates. Nothing that can't be mitigated of course. When I was looking at ~3yr/old vehicles, with ~36K miles on them about a year ago in this segment and price range, I really loved the CX-5. The interior...
