used car choice ... older low mileage vs newer high mileage

I wish Honda axles were even half as tough as Toyota ones. As far as sitting - Accord mostly sat earlier in life. For the past five years it's been on daily duty. Still, 39k miles in 5 years isn't much, but it is better than first 30k miles in first 25 years.

used car choice ... older low mileage vs newer high mileage

I'll be honest, if it died on the test drive - I wouldn't have gotten it. But since money and title exchange already took place - I'm now committed. This Prius will ride again. And Honda may still join my stable later on, if it doesn't sell in next couple weeks. On the Accord there is a...

used car choice ... older low mileage vs newer high mileage

Normally - yes. But this is a proven and unkillable Toyota 1NZ engine. Connected to a proper planetary gear CVT, where there is quite literally nothing to break (looking at you Nissan & Mitsubishi). And I found a ton of these at even much higher mileage, 400k+ isn't uncommon. Plus before it died...

used car choice ... older low mileage vs newer high mileage

The Prius wins this one, although I still may grab the Honda too, if it doesn't sell soon. Prius guy wanted $3500. Turns out he forgot to mention a few things, so I haggled down to $2200. Drove around town (extended test drive) for more than 2 hours and all was mostly good. Nice cold AC, touch...

Good points, but I DIY mostly everything, so for me it would be just the parts cost. Seems similar between the two, although some of the Accord parts are becoming obsolete due to age.

Honda rotors in general are easy. But on that particular Accord - rotor is part of the wheel hub bearing. So to replace the rotor - have to remove the CV axle, disconnect upper ball joint, and remove the hub assembly to separate the rotor from it on the bench. Then reassemble and get a wheel...

used car choice ... older low mileage vs newer high mileage

More cash is available, but I'm too cheap to spend it on myself. I'd rather use it for extra vacation for family. As result - for my own daily every 3-12 months I play this game of "What's the best ride I can get for +/-$3000. Then I daily it, fix what's necessary, maybe upgrade a little, sell...

The TSX Wagon is ideal, only wish it had a manual... But even as automatic it's great. Too bad it's 3X my cheapskate budget. Found one for $5700, but every body panel needed lots of work.

used car choice ... older low mileage vs newer high mileage

Purpose is a daily. Price is within $500 between the two. Maintenance is unknown on both, because I like to gamble. (Pics are not of the actual vehicles, but simply represent the aesthetics upgrades I'd be going after with either vehicle.) - Exhibit A is a mid-90s Honda Accord Wagon. From...

    Handgun recommendation

These are basically made by Beretta ways, by Beretta's plans and blueprints, with Beretta tooling, etc... Maybe not 100% anymore, but it did start out that way. So in my book - this is not a knock-off clone, but a full on sibling to the original 92.

    Lets talk tea!

My tea of choice. The herbal flavors hit so nicely. Smooth, almost sweet, even without sweetening it. And no bitterness that is usually present in Black or Green teas alone. I use one of these dongles for single serving and no floating grass/leafs. Clean yummy cup every time.

    Bought a Cheap Accord

Nice! I had a 1995 Honda Odyssey, and under the hood it looks very familiar. Also I may be getting my hands on one of these Accords soon, but a wagon. So scrolling through your posts gives me a good idea of stuff I will likely have to replace as well. Keep on keeping on! Btw, what kind of MPGs...

    O2 sensor lifespan

If there is no CEL trouble code, don't replace anything. Given your MPG - O2 sensor is still working great. If it does fail - replace only with OEM, or OE supplier.

Those with 150,000 miles or more, check in

Yes, but marketplace is filled with these at $2k-$3k and in need of an engine replacement or rebuild due to issues outlined above. Nice to see one actually taken care of properly, and 15W-40 is just a nice bonus for HDEO fans like me :)

15W-40 ALL THE THINGS!!! Not mine, but very impressive for an engine that's usually killed by VCM destroying the piston rings, or owners neglecting the timing belt/tensioner service. Would love to see the inside of this J35. Judging by where the temp gauge is - VCM is still active on this...

    Coffee - Your Current Brew

I think I found my new favorite... ☕ It literally is head and shoulders above anything else I have tried. No burnt taste, very strong, and extremely smooth. I like it best as overnight brew, SO much flavor, yet zero bitterness. Discovered it on accident, when decided to stop at some Israeli...
