Ford Oz specifying a 15W-40 mineral oil

Ah, so is the 270 is a derivative of the old 170/200/250 inlines we had here? An underrated powerplant IME. I once participated in building one of those up, which included shaving the manifold off a Ford 200 head that came out of a '70 Maverick. There were replacement manifolds available then...

Ford Oz specifying a 15W-40 mineral oil

Is that turbo F6 270 a V6 and is it a derivative of anything in the USA? Or is it an Oz sourced engine? Australia has produced many interesting variants and unique products. As a side note, I'm sorry to hear the auto manufacturing industry seems to be leaving the country. I read Ford and now...

    Noisy Ford 5.4

I think a few people here don't understand how the cam phasers work on the Ford modular engines and why they make noise. And I'll repeat that a heavier oil doesn't always make the noise go away, nor does the benign form of the noise cause long term wear or reliability issues. This is why Ford...

    amsoil vs weapon r filter

^ times infinity! Many, many ways to fake this. I've done and seen too many of these kinds of tests to believe 50+ hp gains from a filter alone. Run, don't walk, away from this product.

    Noisy Ford 5.4

The heavy oil is masking a harmless noise in most cases and the oil is just a noise bandaid. And it doesn't work, or fully work, in many cases. There is no other benefit to running the heavy oil. Unfortunately, an excessive amount of noise is also the indicator of a bad phaser and oil doesn't...

    Noisy Ford 5.4

The 5.4s are noisy by nature and the totally quiet ones are few in number. I have a 5.4L (a noisey one) so have been following this since '08 and gathering information from many sources, including here, FoMoCo (off the record) and a nearby Ford dealer. The 10W40 thing doesn't work a lot of the...

O'reilly's house brands now both made by WIX- pics

Combo valve is strictly a cost-savings tool. It's just "OK" at best right now IMO but who knows what the future may bring. Might be the wave of the future. Might also be one of those things Wix will want to forget as quickly as possible and pray that everyone else does too.

    Gear Replacement - Which Ratio

Best not to consider the gears as "increasing towing capacity" just as making it easier for the truck to do it. I saw dramatic drops in towing and hauling trans temps on many trucks with lower gear ratios. As to towing with medium-big tires and a 6-inch lift, I'm with Meep.... doesn't make for...

    Gear Replacement - Which Ratio

Use the Equivalent Ratio formula. IMO, 35s on 3.42:1 ratios will result in very sluggish acceleration, needlessly high trans oil temps and a significant drop in city mpg. Html: Equivalent Ratio Formula- New Tire Diameter _______________ X Original Gear Ratio = new ratio Old Tire Diameter...

Drain Filter If I Reuse It?

While I've removed and replaced filters, in one instance four times, it's risky. The tiny fraction of oil left in the filter really isn't an issue weighty enough to risk the entire engine over. If you are going to run a filter two OCIs, IMO, safest to leave the filter in place.

    OK to use old filters?

Coupla years ago I asked three engineers who work for filter manufacturers what the shelf life of a filter might be. From two I got PC answers, since our discussion was on the record. Basically, it boiled down to 3 years, with one hedging that 5 might be OK. Another, who was in a position where...

Should you ever change your air filter?

There is a direct connection between WOT power and the airflow capability of the intake system, of which the filter is a part. Many times, it's the plumbing that is the limiting factor, not the filter. Sometimes it's the filter but you don't know until you flowbench the system and dyno test. I...
