    Aeroshell W15W-50 VOA

Adding ASL or any aftermarket additive to a formulated oil skews the results, since we cannot know what ASL contributes to the elemental values. One should have two separate VOAs: one for the additive and one for the formulated lubricant.

Type F ATF used in Hydraulic System

Any generic Type F has a kinematic viscosity of about 7.2 cSt@100C and is in the ISO 46 category for hydraulic fluids. https://bobistheoilguy.com/viscosity-charts/ Fluids such as Amsoil's Supershift Type F, Valvoline Type F, SuperTech Type F, and most ISO 46 hydraulic fluids (such as Traveller...

    Parasynthetic compatibility - Schaeffer's 15w-40

@siriusc1024 "My observed results happen to line up with 540Rat's ranking." Nothing in 540rats stuff is even close to having any supporting scientific basis so I would not rely on any of that data. Your questions on compatibility have been answered.

How much limited slip additive in a dana 70?

GL-5 fluids are designed for the high loading encountered in hypoid-type differentials using spiral bevel gears. They use a chemistry called "EP" or extreme pressure additives...

How much limited slip additive in a dana 70?

I wouldn't add it unless it chatters with the hypoid fluid you have in there. Overtreating leads to slippage when you need traction the most.

    HPL Oil 5w-40 5.7k mi; 6.7 Powerstroke 35.6k mi

No. The CC version has a substantial amount of PAO. The CC version is the better oil for all temps.

How much limited slip additive in a dana 70?

What product? Does it chatter with the current hypoid fluid? Most modern hypoid GL-5 fluids have a modest amount of LS chemistry already in them. I add 1/4 of the bottle initially and then go do figure 8's in an empty parking lot. If I hear or feel chatter, then repeat with another 1/4 bottle...

    Type F fluid - additives with dex3

@chorty There is no such thing as Type F seal conditioner. I suspect your seals are really worn so an aftermarket seal conditioner such as ATP AT-205 or Gunk Autotransmission sealer added to the fluid might slow the leak, but no guarantees.

    Parasynthetic compatibility - Schaeffer's 15w-40

Historically, Schaeffer's was one of the first blenders in the Industrial, Trucking, and Farm markets to offer what was then called, "para-synthetics," which were mainly Group II and PAO blends, about 25%-50% PAO and about 50-75% Group II. I believe their 700 series of products were these...

    Carbon deposits found on Mars.

Phys.org, Popular Science, Popular Mechanics, The Daily Galaxy, Live Science, and other similar sites, really do a disservice to science by posting clickbait titles and by not giving the total story. I have clicked on what looks like an interesting scientific article only to discover, after...

    Carbon deposits found on Mars.

"...The discovery of carbonate suggests that the atmosphere contained enough carbon dioxide to support liquid water existing on the planet's surface. As the atmosphere thinned, the carbon dioxide transformed into rock form. NASA says future missions and analysis of other sulfate-rich areas on...

What oil "clings" best to an infrequently run engine?

I agree that the "synthetic-bad, Group II good," myth has been perpetuated throughout the industry as an incorrect cause-and-effect relationship. We have shown it was the poor additive package and not the base oil that was the problem with the Mobil AV. so why this myth keeps being repeated is...

What oil "clings" best to an infrequently run engine?

Added to the base oils would be a tackifier and a dihydro-1H-imidazole derivative is all that is needed to make an anti-rust oil that clings.

Cub Cadet Tank M72 - Ornite Additive

You must have the Cat diesel version? The Kawasaki version uses a 10W30 for the engine oil. Where in the manual does it say add this Oronite additive, and what is the part number listed? Engine oils have all of the additive chemistry contained therein.

2017 c220d ... Thicker transmission fluid to help with gearbox issue?

That Fluid is 7.3-4.5 cSt = a 2.8 cSt Delta, assuming your OEM fluid is a ULV = 4.5 cSt. If the temp sensor in your tranny is sending erroneous data to the ECU, I doubt a thicker fluid will cure the problem.

    New CVT oil ??

Any ATF fluid is a complex combination of at least 18 separate chemistries. A CVT fluid has to have a group of friction modifiers to satisfy both the traction coefficient for the chain/pulley system and the frictional requirements for the torque converter/lockup clutch.

    New CVT oil ??

The manf. of the transmission works with an additive company to develop the fluid specification. The transmission manf. and the additive company then work with a blender to blend the fluid to the final specifications. Some additive companies also produce the blended fluid for OEM factory fill...
