Capri and Icon beat Snap on

I've called SnapOn on more than one occasion for warranty stuff. It's been painless and they've never asked for a receipt or anything. I will freely admit two problems with the process: it's slow and ever since the Great Irrational Panic many products are on backorder. I'm still waiting for a...

Subaru Owners, which diff fluid viscosity do you use?

The relearn feels a bit like the Emporer's Clothes: it pauses for a second, pretends to think and Voila! I did it w my Otofix and Mr Subaru shows it at the end of one of his vids with whatever scan tool he was hawking. My understanding is that it's optional if you don't have prior complaints...

Capri and Icon beat Snap on

I have no problem with SnapOn getting "beat" -- indeed I have the Snappy reversibles and just don't care for them for reasons I can't articulate -- but I don't understand ranking backdrag when new. This is like saying a leather chair, baseball mitt or hiking boots suck because they're not that...

    New tool thread

Got this metric set of taps and dies for $40 at pawn. In hindsight there's a couple kits on ebay for $55, although this exact kit appears discontinued so examples are scarce. I consider Irwin -- especially older Irwin -- cutting tools decent for hand use. The kit includes M11x1.5 which I find...

Intermittent Torque Converter Lock Up -1998 Jeep Cherokee XJ - AW4

I too am not opposed to a miracle in a bottle as I've had good experiences with Seafoam TransTune in Fords (6R140 and 4R70). It seems -- in cave man terms -- the Lucas may make the fluid more thickerer while Seafoam might make it more thinnerer. I'm willing to believe the latter can aid sticky...

What are you working on today?

On this '11 Grand Cherokee the blower motor would cut in and out, seemingly at random but there may have been a pattern. The interweb suggests this is actually the system signaling a problem with climate control. Why you would choose this as an indicator and why you'd expect anyone to know this...

What are you working on today?

Oil cooler on 3.6 Pentastar in WK2 GC. Vacuuming out a nice paste of oil, coolant and mouse poop. So fun! New Dorman in place. Note great access at rear with cowl removed: Also cured a constant battery light that has befuddled the owner for a couple years. I found the connector on rear of...

Anyone else like the expandable ratchets?

What is the upper one? I've never seen a flex head in this style. On the swivel head, give 'em a shot in 1/4". For whatever reason it's the only drive size I like a roto head. Specifically, the Cornwell/Carlyle is my go-to 1/4" ratchet.

    Mobil 1 0W-20 T&SUV @Amazon

Received my single jug yesterday. They shipped it in a rectangle box about the size of the jug, laying down. One piece of thin brown packing paper. Somehow it survived and didn't get crushed, so I guess ya can't argue with results....

New Dorman oil filter housing/oil cooler installed on 2014 Durango

On the WK2 I opted to remove the cowl (let's be honest: I got the idea from a vid. I don't actually know anything except how to sometimes find information). Personally I'd say it's worth the negligible effort. Cowl (I have ZERO idea why the owner repaired the washer system as he did and I've...

    Pentastar upper intake support brackets

Following up, I was able to get the front one with an XL ratcheting wrench. I didn't think I'd have enough swing, but there was just enough The slightly extended cap style is best, but spline drive sucks. It is 13mm. Fortunately (for me), the last guy pulled the rear bracket back and bent...

Search radiator cleaning wand and watch some vids or read reviews. I don't own one but I think they have their place.

    Trax overheated today..

Bugs, pollen, tree seeds and dust can really build up, and if between the rad and condenser you never see it. OTOH it might be totally clean in there. Not a silver bullet but worth checking since it does not require a shot from the parts cannon

    Pentastar upper intake support brackets

Just did the oil cooler/filter housing on an '11 Grand Cherokee w 3.6. It had been done previously once already, looked like maybe OEM based on the Hengst cap. Anyway the previous guy was a bit of a hack, lots of little details overlooked. When it came to me these brackets were not connected...

    Trax overheated today..

What I'm thinking is was it really overheating? The PCM only knows what the sensor tells it. Beyond that you said no probs at higher speeds. Any chance the rad is blocked or buildup between condenser and rad?

Well under load you need more fuel. Have you at least checked fuel pressure? Graph B1S1 to see if it's likely working correctly

drum brakes adjusted, now one side hotter?

The shoes will wear. Your temp difference doesn't seem extreme, I'd probably give it more time as you say.

Coil compressor for McPherson type strut

Sounds safe, what could go wrong? My buddy is all about Temu and he said the same thing: cheap spring compressors on Temu. Yep, there are cheap spring compressors on Temu. Seems like an excellent place to cut corners ;)

New Dorman oil filter housing/oil cooler installed on 2014 Durango

I'm doing this now on a 2011 WK2 GC and the kit now comes with a blue or black o-ring for the oil inlet nipple. Based on some web searches I figured it had to do with a 2022 MY break, but I wanted to give myself the absolute best chance of success here. I called Dorman tech support...
