CAFE Standards Fines for Automakers Reduced to $0.00

I really don't see that being an issue if you can make the smallest of cars meet them like the Yaris, Versa etc. And if the Wrangler can still do it with removable doors and a fold-down windshield, I refuse to believe an enclosed cab truck with a permanently affixed roof can't somehow pull it...

CAFE Standards Fines for Automakers Reduced to $0.00

Fantastic if true. Does this mean we could also get true, simple mini-trucks again? Or is that "footprint" law something else?

I dunno, you really need a chassis iron to do it right.

First drain/fill on 2021 tundra question

I will say I don't care for the "trickle" method because it's still somewhat subjective. But yeah, use a scanner and live data. Also I think you want temp 1? Temp 2 is torque converter? I can never remember. Yes, yes, they should be the same if you started with it stone cold.

    guys over 50 doing maintenance

I've never torqued Subaru hitch bolts. They're just graded carriage bolts passing through sheetmetal. I take the Milwaukee mid-torque and get 'em gutentight without staying in it so long as to damage the fastener (they're 1/2-13 or 1/2-20 IIRC). Never saw the point in wasting time torquing...

Capri and Icon beat Snap on

Yes, allegedly the tolerances on SnapOn's line wrenches are some of the tightest. That said, you're then left hoping the manufacturer of the line fittings was also shooting for nominal size without going over much If you go to 1:30 here he measures across the flats of some Milwaukees (the...

Best oil suction gun for the money? Bought the lincoln off amazon last time

I've got the plastic OEM Tools but there are numerous clones that look identical. I don't use them for engine oil often -- mostly ATF and p/s fluid. I keep a dedicated one for brake fluid to suck out mc reservoirs. I like them a lot, and I appreciate the clear plastic just for overall...

    What do Bitogers do???

I'm confused -- isn't Lancaster Cnty in Pennzylvania? So wouldn't you have to use Pennzoil? Anything less seems blasphemous?

"November 1963" movie being filmed here

I'd tell 'em they can call law enforcement because I'd love to know the statute which prohibits photos in plain sight in public :D. But in a land that seemed to like Little justin....anything is possible :( Furthermore you're naive if you think you're gonna bring out a bunch of classic cars and...

    guys over 50 doing maintenance

Sad but true. Anytime I try to refer something outside my wheelhouse, the "experts" do a worse job than I would with minimal knowledge (and ten minutes of online research). I can usually find the non-conventional fix online and say with a sigh, "Just bring it me so I can fix it correctly" --...

"November 1963" movie being filmed here

The only thing that bugs me is the no photos thing. Was this a public street? Are such laws different in Canaduh? I'd inform them there's a reason movie studios film on huge, closed PRIVATE lots. Bring anything on or near a public street and it's fair game.

    1965 442 value guidance

I've always thought this, too. I don't know the market but you've got the Rawlings/Collins effect of "this is worth $120k".....then at auction it brings $50k. All sky-in-the-pie prices are based upon this ONE sale this ONE time with a PRISTINE example and the PERFECT buyer....essentially a...

    F1 The Movie

Traditional Hollywood is battling the death rattles but can't fully admit it to themselves. Streaming started it and '20 solidified it. Personally, I think it's fine. We put actors on a pedestal way too much. Nothing wrong with the profession but they're not gods. They even thought they...

    Roof Racks

There's a million variables but it really helped on an old Audi I owned long ago. Can't be more specific than that.

Do you use a magnetic drain plug?

I made three more plugs today. I had ordered a .250" reamer for use on my mill (no runout in the work) and it worked perfectly for a press fit. Of course I don't know if all batches of these magnets are so nicely a half thou oversize, so YMMV. The magnets definitely are brittle. I had...

What are you working on today?

The Mad Max Forester returned for an oil change. Now at 217,500 mi, I just keep bracing for something catastrophic. My lift is tied up again so I had to work on the floor like a commoner. Oh the horror!

WHAT Pressure washer HOSE -25 ft 3/8" ID?

Only tangentially related, I've got a Flexzilla air hose and learned the hard way that if exposed to the spray of sparks from a grinder, they break down like a Stanford student witnessing someone being addressed by the wrong pronoun. For the air hoses they sell proprietary repair kits. If the...

    F1 The Movie

I think Brad Pitt is too old to drive F1? No matter how great you are, your reflexes and eyesight suffer in your 40s, and of course even 30s is old for F1

What are you working on today?

Basket case '05 Ram 1500 now with 299,318 miles: -oil change -swapped the headlight switch for one that's fog-capable and the fogs in the bumper now work! -transmission service with pan drop. Never done a 545RFE before, kinda weird with a screen and spin-on filter both in the pan. Also not...
