    1995 Ford Ranger Worn syncros

Theoretically you can vacuum bleed (your ZF or a Ranger) from the top. This guy's got questionable street cred but it's simple enough: I actually did this on a '94 Ranger. I don't recall the results. There's a host of vids about a stubborn low point in the clutch hydraulic system due to Team...

Wagner Thermoquiet no longer has integrated shim for my CRV

It would be really interesting to see if date of manufacture could be determined and then compare that to when Apollo took control :D

Used Snap-on PolarTek A/C Machine- worth buying?

I think approximate age might matter? I've always wondered how reliable the electronics are in these. Presumably SnapOn wouldn't be likely to drop the ball here or they'd have a lot of upset shop owners.

Loud vibrating hum coming from air box occasionally

If cleaning doesn't work, I'd be curious what misfire counts are doing as it's idling.

    Two-piece rear main seals

Also, appreciate all the perspectives here. I think it's cool to hear people's various approaches. In time we develop our own methods, usually based mostly on experience and maybe a touch of superstition along the way, at least for me. I've helped friends replace 2-piece rear mains before but...

    Two-piece rear main seals

I have a Mahle set but it didn't come with the little shoehorn. I believe FailPro does so I may order one just to get the plastic shoehorn. I could probably fashion one if I felt like messing with it. I guess some guys use a plastic straw. The instructions included with the Mahle say...

Need recommendations for clamshell bearing puller

I can only tell you Vevor seems to be especially bad about looking at a product and creating a facsimile of the thing -- Potemkin Villages essentially. That said, I have their case spreader, although I've yet to use it. I may be in for a surprise when I finally try.....

    Two-piece rear main seals

Just saying it's gotta go in 3/8" on one side if you clock it 3/8" lopsided. No matter, I'll play it by ear and see what I think

    Two-piece rear main seals

It's interesting because Fel-Pro specifically says 3/8" offset. They also say to use the tool to install the top half, so it still begs the question of why the tool is necessary for the top half but never mind when starting the bottom half

1973 New Yorker is rear-ended by Kia Forte

My wife was rear-ended in our JL (on 38s at the time) by a Subaru. The spare got the dust wiped off. Everything else was fine. I pored over it in case I needed to file a claim but could find ZERO damage. The Subaru's hood got a makeover and his radiator popped so he was dead in the water...

    2026 model year changes?

ACTUALLY I'm over-complicating this: just give the driver the option to turn it off AND IT STAYS OFF through all future start cycles. Can be returned to operation anytime. What a concept. Then they can satisfy the majority and the vocal N95 minority -- best of both worlds!

    2026 model year changes?

In Jeeps the Tazer deactivates every time by simply "faking" a button push. I'm no programmer but seems to me OEMs could do exactly the same -- leave the software identical just add a little thing that makes it think the driver has pushed the button EVERY start cycle. Put a blank in the dash...

    Two-piece rear main seals

This is a Dodge 318 but obviously applicable to the 350, Jeep 4.0 etc Do you recommend "offsetting" the seal so the split is not at the seam of the bearing cap? I was always told to do this, but then do you worry about nicking it as one side of the seal must travel into the upper half without...

Alternatives for Toyota rubber plug - parking brake adjustment

Pfft the next best was $11 on ebay. I actually would have done that if I could afford the shipping time. Now I've gotta find a way to my dealer to get the part, minimum hour round trip if I don't get distracted by other errands

Fluid on brand new shock (out of the box)

Supposedly a small amount of weepage is normal, but it would make me uneasy. In truth, you're probably fine, so you've gotta weigh risk vs hassle of returning

What are you working on today?

I serviced the trans in the '17 Taco today. I will say every other time I've done standpipe transmissions, it's been during the cooler months and I've had to let the vehicle idle 15-20 minutes to hit correct ATF temp. Today it was ~83F in the shop and that was kinda nice to not have to wait...

What are you working on today?

I'm discovering Tub O Towels works pretty well on a greasy stove top, esp if you use LP and I'm assuming NG is similar. Just don't tell the wife.

Need recommendations for clamshell bearing puller

Vevor sketchy in general. I think it's Den of Tools? who has several vids about lawsuits against them. That said I've got the DuraTough? which might be the same Chinese factory -- who knows. It's worked for a couple jobs (shrug)
