Rear view mirror takes some glass with it - GMT800

2006 Silverado rear view mirror fell off but took some glass, too. Not adhesive but glass. Searching the web, this is not entirely unheard of on various makes. I found mention of Chevy, Ford and Subaru on various forums. The remedy was never clear. I'd prefer to try to fix it and leaning...

Nissan latest - Asking suppliers to pause payments..

Ditto, ours closed VERY abruptly. She was using vehicles as loan collateral but a surprise inspection by the lender revealed she'd sold something like 60 of those vehicles and not paid back the agreed-upon amount from each sale.

What are you working on today?

Well, I replaced the front gas tank strap on a 2nd Gen Ram. According to my buddy the strap broke in town one day (we both live very rural) and he ratchet strapped it up to get home. It's been a couple years and he never got around to a permanent fix. I wish I had taken a picture of the strap...

Capri and Icon beat Snap on

Another epidemic I personally believe I've witnessed with today's information age and video shootouts is the "THAT'S SO YESTERDAY" mentality. Today TTC claims an impact or ratchet is the best and guys trample each other to buy it. Next year a new test shows a new champion and last year's SUPER...

Capri and Icon beat Snap on

The bottom line is still that as a tech if you always buy SnapOn you will VERY RARELY be disappointed and generally you're getting the best on the market, both in design and metallurgy. I'm speaking in aggregate, similar to how people do -- or used to -- just shop NAPA for parts because in...

Failed transmission removal. What did I miss?

It's always nice to hear how things are done in other parts of the world (well, except for Canada, because, well, Canada ;) ). Similarly, we tend to always replace or turn brake rotors but others here have said in the EU and UK pad slaps are common. I don't know what parts are like in Italy but...

Brake lines for a old truck?

All I'm hearing is an excuse to buy the Maddox copy of the Mastercool hydraulic flare kit. Something I've drooled after for a couple decades and still haven't pulled the trigger. I'm disappointed all -- never pass up an excuse to buy tools. Geesh.

What's good, and not so good, in brake pads these days?

I have Callahan loaded calipers on the rear of my F150, but they were new. Callahan is just the budget line of Powerstop. The calipers seemed identical and came in Powerstop boxes with Powerstop part numbers. Unfortunately I didn't get the red paint that adds 5hp. I find it interesting: in Sept...

Brake lines for a old truck?

I ordered from them for a 2nd Gen Ram 1500 rear axle. Good overall, but the kit failed to distinguish from the earlier wheel cylinders that have straight entry vs later that have angled entry. I don't necessarily blame them as there are so many variations across all vehicles. I was able to...

Capri and Icon beat Snap on

IME Matco corporate is an unprofessional mess. Some of their tools are great but I can't say anything good about Matco as a company.

Long Term Fuel Trim at 20% 04 Mazda 3 2.3L

I think your fuel pressure is fine, but can you just power brake it? On a '98 CRV I somehow fed the hose out the hood at the cowl and laid the gauge on the windshield and went for a spin. True story.

Would you buy a new Mitsubishi?

It's not relevant at all. It's like saying the latest Jeep Compass or Renegade is awesome off-road because Jeep built the CJ in the 80's

    Most reliable used simple/basic vehicle

Starting in '12. The prior 4 speed was good. The biggest problem with '08-11 is the overly-complicated sunroof dies (usually open, of course). And of course idle vibration due to engine mounts.

    Most reliable used simple/basic vehicle

The '08-11 Focii are bomber, too. Even the automatics. As with all things, condition is key. Find a clean, well maintained and not-abused example of whatever make/model you choose.

Capri and Icon beat Snap on

This feels like a forced case of "innovate or die." The Dual 80s are so great, it's difficult to top them. You see this all the time with all kinds of products ‐‐ a company stumbles onto a near-perfect design but after awhile they (and usually consumers) feel it's stagnant so they change it...

I feel bad for chorty's ECM and fuel trims. "We're lean! We're rich! We're lean! We're rich! What is going on???" :D
