Transmission fill plug won't come off! Subaru CVT

    I don't think a Ford C4 will bolt up to an FB25 :D

Transmission fill plug won't come off! Subaru CVT

When I did the Mad Max SJ Forester I had to rig up my mid-torque 1/2" and do quick blips to shock it loose. This is VERY common on the TR580 -- not sure why.

What are you working on today?

I've been using axle straps to hold the water tote on our little utility trailer but they walk along the rails, which annoys me. I added a pair of 1/2" D-rings Also I kinda wanted additional tie-down options on the front rail. I'm always hoarding old u-bolts for reasons like this and finally...

3mz-fe catastrophic new cam seal failure

Techs should demand four hours added to flat rate. Procedures like this are stupid ‐‐ who has the time? Furthermore, unless you finish a customer's car by ~noon, they can't pick it up before COB

What are you working on today?

The degas bottles crack and cause a leak so check that for giggles. The water pumps weep and are down really low and VERY hard to see the drip. Well, at least on the 3.0

    Oil filter wasn't changed

This is an excellent point! I forgot about the H/K oddity of needing a VERY specific bypass pressure. I also agree with @Pablo -- we need WAY more evidence than a single picture before encouraging a Holy War.

Ford Five Hundred dash display oddity

Sounds like Ford. The '08 SuperDuty had a selection for TBC output in the dot matrix display but Ford never got around actually implementing. I think it worked in '09 and '10. No one cares anymore because EVERY engine offered '08-10 was garbage and very few are left on the road.

What are you working on today?

RMS on '95 ZJ with 5.2 Once I got it apart I wonder if the oil pan gasket wasn't leaking as much as or more than the RMS. I added the arrows to show the owner how it came apart vs the new pan gasket in foreground Oh, whoever put the 02 sensor connector WAY up the side of the transmission in...

Question concerning accurate cvt fluid measurements

That horse is dead. Read this and stop kicking it. Do what you're comfortable with. https://bobistheoilguy.com/forums/threads/are-we-over-exaggerating-the-perfect-atf-fluid-level-thermal-expansion-seems-to-think-we-are.381585/

Wish me luck. 2014 navigator oil change

If the filter points the same as the 3V, I prefer a cup socket on a wobble on an extension. I'd go so far as to say it's mandatory. The filter catch tray actually dumps 99% behind the xmember. In time I've learned where to put my drain pan near the front diff cover. I service an '06 Expy...

    Two-piece rear main seals

Ok well I wound up installing it flush with the bearing cap seam. My belief/theory after this research is that it doesn't really matter, and the old one came out flush. After a brief test drive to get it up to temp I shut it down on my concrete floor and haven't observed any leaking yet. One...

Dodge 5.2/5.9 o-ring in rear main kit?

Yeah thanks for brainstorming. I had all the same thoughts. Couldn't find anywhere it would go on the pump pickup. I also considered dipstick tube but you don't need to touch it for this job. The one time I found it described as a shifter o-ring was a different, random import brand. I'm...

Best Price for ZF Lifeguard 8, 9, or Mopar ATF?

You could also do the Extended Protection if you're almost ok with standard VML. It does not have the stamp of approval for CVTs. I bought this for $84 in '23 and it's only $2 more now: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07V46QTWM Presently ~$23 per qt on RA!! edit: when he was around @GMBoy swore...

    Don’t buy Temu drill bits

If a product (like furniture) includes a hex key or screwdriver for assembly I scrap it immediately and go get my shop tools ;)

    Don’t buy Temu drill bits

I think I once had an index of Hansons in a green metal case. Learn to sharpen and good bits make more sense financially. That said, I rarely sharpen smaller than ~5/16" because it's trickier and new bits aren't that expensive. I usually buy a given size in packs of six or twelve.

Dodge 5.2/5.9 o-ring in rear main kit?

Some of these rear main kits include a separate, small black o-ring. Anyone know what it's supposed to be for? It does not appear to fit the rear bearing cap/oil pump interface or anywhere else I can find. One search result called it a shifter shaft o-ring, which doesn't make much sense...

How much per hour should I charge to fix A/C?

If you do a good job -- and I'm sure you will -- you can charge whatever you want. People will pay for competence, and those who won't are not customers you want. Book rate is just a suggestion, no law says you have to follow that. Just ask the medical profession-- they never want to tell you...

Used Snap-on PolarTek A/C Machine- worth buying?

Meh, I think like me @GON is mostly unconcerned with payback in dollars. If you use it ONCE and it saves dealing with incompetent morons, it paid for itself right there.

    Don’t buy Temu drill bits

US, Japan or Europe HSS is all gonna be good enough when used with a knowledgeable operator. Stuff from Poland can be a hidden gem as it's often less expensive than, say, Germany but still very good. Probably Taiwan, too, although Taiwan isn't well-known for their cutting tools -- but their...

What Voids Your Car's Warranty? - The Car Care Nut Video

There may be concern the manufacturer inspects major components like engines and refuses reimbursement if it appears a warranty claim was not legitimate? I know bike shops used to have to hold onto their old CrackNFail (aka Cannondale) frames until a rep came along and verified each was cracked.
