78 XS750 with excessive oil burning and lower compression in center cyl.

E10 won't stick rings over winter storage. I live in CA, which has used E10 for a long time now, and none of my motorcycles or lawn equipment have issues. In the past, my motorcycles would plug a pilot jet or two, before running fuel stabilizer, but never stuck a ring.

Long Term 5w-30 use in Honda 1.5t

Okay, no highway, but a very light load type driving. That engine won't likely wear out from any sort of lubrication issues. You can use any sort of 0W-20 or 5W-30 you like. It won't matter. What we don't know at this point is what sort of issues kill a 1.5T when they reach high mileage. I...

Why do they still use the rubber undercoating on cars?

Selective application areas. It went on before the body was color coated. And again, black paint was applied on top, also selectively applied

Why do they still use the rubber undercoating on cars?

Are you suggesting that OEM style urethane underbody protection coatings are detrimental to the life of the vehicle?

Long Term 5w-30 use in Honda 1.5t

To get 37.2mpg out of a tank, you must be racking up big highway miles, driving at light load. For that use case, the oil won't be stressed regardless of what you use.

Why do they still use the rubber undercoating on cars?

Don't confuse the stuff I mentioned with rubberized crap. The stuff I've seen is applied in the plant body shop, and it dries hard, much like stone guard applied on the rocker panels. In fact, it may be the same stuff.

    Soldering gun tip oddity.

I have a similar gun and same experience. Red hot tip wires, but can't melt solder. Sanding the oxide layer off the tip helps, but it doesn't last. For serious soldering, I bought a Hakko soldering station and it's amazing.

Long Term 5w-30 use in Honda 1.5t

I drive almost all city miles, and when dropping the oil in my Civic at 5000 miles, or even less sometimes, the oil has a very strong gasoline odor. I don't know what % of fuel dilution there is, but I've never smelled oil like this in all my decades of doing oil changes.

Why do they still use the rubber undercoating on cars?

I spent some years inside auto plants, and at the plants I'm familiar with, the cars received a thick urethane rustproof spray under the car. This material was thermo set, and thick. It looked like the rubberized stuff that many are familiar with, but only it was not black. Black spray paint...

    VOA - Mobil 1 ESP 0W-30

Honda 1.5T engines, Accords mostly, have some tendency to blow head gaskets. I don't know the actual failure rate, but it happens often enough to create some internet buzz. And some people claim that using regular fuel in a 1.5T can cause detonation, which damages the head gasket. I've...

Long Term 5w-30 use in Honda 1.5t

In your opinion, what are a few of the better (Amazon, Walmart, similarly available) high HT/HS 5W-30 or 0W-30 oils?

Long Term 5w-30 use in Honda 1.5t

I noticed the same thing with my Civic. The 1.5T, mine anyway, is VERY quiet from a mechanical clatter perspective. The loudest thing is the fuel injectors clicking. Anyway, with the thicker oil, the sound is even more damped. I also notice that the engine is ever so slightly less...

78 XS750 with excessive oil burning and lower compression in center cyl.

Either you have some incredibly restrictive chinesium pods, or your data is faulty. Common high quality pods like K&N, Uni, APE, and the like, allow significantly more air into the carbs, which will drastically lean the mixture. Most bikes won't accept throttle under load until the carbs are...

Amsoil SS question for 5k OCIs GM 2.7 Turbo

I assume we are talking about the L3B engine? On face value, that engine just plain kicks ass! The CT4 (optionally) uses that engine, and it seems like a real gem! I'm half way tempted to get one before it's too late.

78 XS750 with excessive oil burning and lower compression in center cyl.

Incorrect. Installing pods makes the mixture drastically lean. You can't judge mixture by just pulling a plug after a some miles.

Last full size K-Mart store in Mainland USA closing

I lived in NE Ohio during the mid-late 90's, and the Super K-Mart in my area was the hub of civilization. It was a massive store. Well kept, clean, well stocked. The Walmart on the other side of town was like Walmarts are; messy, disorganized, NOT a pleasant place to visit. I wonder what...

78 XS750 with excessive oil burning and lower compression in center cyl.

Pod air filters are famous for leaning the mixture and making the engine run HOT. Did you rejet the carbs, and if so, what method did you use to verify proper mixture?
