Please suggest a VW transmission fluid

Well I guess it is in stock now at ECS tuning. Why would this be any better than the Redline MT-LV, which also lists the two VW part numbers in their compatibility list? I figure the things that make the most differnce are the secret blend of friction modifiers, not base oil or viscosities...

They have different viscosities, as I noted earlier. However, it's entirely possible that Castrol makes a custom blend for VW.

Oh, I always thought it was yet another BITOG acronym

    Mobil 1 ESP X4 0W-40

What are the chemical differences between the (0,5)W-30 ESP oils vs the X3 vs the X4? Why is there no 5W40 ESP oil? So, my understanding is that NOACK is how much of the oil "evaporates", and ash is how much is left after it is burned? Which one do I care more about regarding intake deposits?

    Mobil 1 ESP X4 0W-40

Every time I ask about oils I'm told that [x,y,z] is more than good enough for my car, so why should I pay 3x the price for HPL?

Well now that you mention it, I do have LSPI concerns

    Mobil 1 ESP X4 0W-40

Hopefully this thread can consolidate discussions on this new oil (I've found various comments about it on the X3 and Porsche C40 GT threads). Anyway, I know that most oils are "good enough for my car", but am mainly wondering what are the + and - over ESP 5W30 for my VW. After the usual...

Tuned turbo engine - Do I need a higher performance oil?

Thank you for the suggestions. Unfortunately I live in California and can't implement some of the more useful ones.

Tuned turbo engine - Do I need a higher performance oil?

I think these are "full SAPS" oils which are supposed to be bad for intake deposit buildup?

Well maybe I too want to drive over the Rockies in the summer some day.

DMF, because I'm a normie. BTW, the Redline MT-LV has been in for a few hundred miles now. I might like it less than the old, used OEM fluid. Initially, the MT-LV shifting into 2nd would go "pause, clunk" into gear. It was slower than OEM, but at least "solid". Now it goes "pause (a little...

Tuned turbo engine - Do I need a higher performance oil?

Thanks for all the replies. Here is a chart from the tuner for the torque / power the engine now makes. Mine is the 91 octane, so it's the lowest of the tuned curves. But still a lot more torque than stock. In terms of the rods blowing up, I don't know if it is due to metal fatigue (nothing...

Tuned turbo engine - Do I need a higher performance oil?

Hello folks, I'm sure my case is unique and this kind of question has never been asked before. :) I have a 2018 VW Golf R that has been ECU flashed to make more power and torque. Mainly I am worried about the torque aspect because when I asked for even more, people starting warning me that it...

Please suggest a VW transmission fluid

Original poster here again. I replaced it with Redline MT-LV. However, the shifting action feels "heavier" now, in that there's a fraction of a second of resistance from the synchros before the lever slots into gear. It doesn't feel mushy or bad, just the shifting action is slower now. In a...

Please suggest a VW transmission fluid

Here are the viscosity at 40C numbers I found: G052527A2: 27.6 Redline MT-LV: 30 Castrol Transmax Manual V 75W-80: 40 Fuchs Titan Sintofluid 75W: 40.8 Febi 21829 : 40.8 the same? So it does look like the OEM is the thinnest, with Redline MT-LV a close second.

Please suggest a VW transmission fluid

After doing some more reading, I came to the conclusion that to get better low temperature smoothness, I'd need an oil with a low viscosity at 40C. Other names that came up were Redline MT-LV, Febi Bilstein 21829, and Fuchs Titan Sintofluid 75W. They all brand themselves as "high efficiency"...

Please suggest a VW transmission fluid

Hello folks, I have a 2018 Golf R manual transmission. I figured I may as well replace the transmission fluid at 50K miles and a new clutch, and a Stage 1 tune that makes more torque than before. I'm generally happy with the OEM fluid except that first thing in the morning and on colder days...

    Mobil 1 5W30 ESP, 5000 mi, 2018 VW Golf R

Sir, you are correct. The fill for sample number 3 is the SN/SM grade of ESP. The current fill is almost 1 qt out of the SN/SM jug, and 5 qt of grade [sorry I don't know since I threw out that jug, but I got it from Autozone recently]. So probably my next UAO will have an unknown base...
