    Mobil 1 0W-40 Supercar vs Mobil 1 0W-40 ESP

Mobil PDS's royally suck these days. Somebody needs to do some VOA on the new stuff. PDS dated July 2024 lists Calcium at 0.17 mass% per ASTM D4052 specs for the 0W-40. I think that converts to 170 ppm. I originally thought that M1 Supercar 0W-40 was the rebranded "old" FS formula because it...

    M1 PDS missing info

All their PDS are light on real information these days. They don't want you informed.

What will happen to brands owned by Mann-Hummel? (Wix & Purolator)

Those nuts are built-in failure points.

What is the story on K&N oil filters today?

Had a K&N motorcycle filter fail on me catastrophically at the welded nut. Luckily it was parked and idling before the ride. It was made in Korea, but I wouldn't think Indonesia is better quality. It is not a "bad" weld, the whole idea of spotwelding to the can is dumb. It fails (crack in can)...

A Couple of Nice Torque Wrenches

Buyer beware with Snap-On owned companies. Many CDI Torque Products, and Williams brand tools are now being made in China or Chinese parts. There are still NOS USA and China made stuff commingling out there in the market. If the seller says they are USA, I will verify or return them if they ship...

E-85 instead of Fuel System cleaner?

I wouldn't do it unless you think you have some water in tank. The alcohol should absorb the water. Don't think there is an upside to E85, environmentally or economically.

    aerodynamics over tires

I didn't see anything new or clever about the CBR600 fender. That is typical sportbike design since inverted forks were first used... The Suzuki Hayabusa has a larger one than most, for lower drag coefficient at high speed. The 'Busa is all about top speed, little else. 2010 Hayabusa

    Mobil 1 0W-40 Current PDS

So what is the new pour point? Data is "missing".... This is supposed to be their flagship euro oil. No longer -54°C? flash point is now lower... VI dropped a bit. Somebody explain to me how this is an improved formulation?

    Mobil 1 5W50 Synthetic

I had read that it was factory spec'd for the new Mustang Shelby GT500's, so I looked it up on M1 website. In the FAQ's, listed as available factory dealership item, not in normal retail stores in the USA. My guess is that the 15W-50 M1 is too politically incorrect to specify in new vehicles...

    Local Sam's won't put 2 new tires on a 4WD pickup

That's my preferred way... All 4 wheels for my car, brought to tire shop in my pickup. Then I don't worry about idjit Tire Monkey's with air-impact tools.

Insulating the air intake? Radiant heat!

Ram air ducts are mostly B.S. ducts. Taking the air intake from farther away from the hot surface of the roadway (and engine compartment)is better obviously. I think ram air effect doesn't come into play until you're going WAY over typical freeway speeds. I'm talking 100+ MPH.

    Syntec and sludge?

From what I've heard about "Sludge Engines" is that the engine/heads are poorly designed in that the engine oil temperature in certain places is too high. The oil gets "cooked" and turns to sludge. The Dodge 4.7L is infamous for this, and now certain Toyota's too. I wouldn't think of using dino...

    M1 5W-40 T&SUV, 8k miles, 1996 Audi A4 2.8 V6

What mileage was on these engines when getting this consumption? 1qt/1000mi is unacceptable in a normally driven engine (excluding a rotory) with under 60k total miles , that's my opinion (and others). The Mfr's who say this is normal/acceptable also state that engine break-in procedures are...
