Anyone tried 87 octane in a Harley?

car54, Your 2005 Sportster was required to run 91 octane minimum. It's no surprise you got pinging with lower octane.

What is your favorite breakfast cereal?

My favorite cereal doesn't exist anymore. S'Mores Grahams. It was chocolate covered Golden Grahams with little marshmallows. I quit eating cereal when they quit making that.

    Five Guys Burgers and Fries

I'll take Red Robin over Five Guys any day. There's some local bars that make better burgers than any of the so-called "gourmet" chains around here. One in particular, The Wood Shed bar & grill in Neenah, WI, has one called The Boss. Grilled 1/3# angus patty with pepper jack cheese, onions...

Favorite Beer threads of 2013 combined

I used to be a die-hard Miller guy, with the occasional Leinenkugel's for a "treat". Leinie's Berry Weiss is just awesome. My buddy turned me on to Busch Light, and it's my new go-to beer. Only time I'll get a Miller Lite now is if the bar doesn't have Busch. Here's a fun fact I was told by...

    Kim Chi ??

I've had it in sushi rolls at a local Korean restaurant. Amazing. It's my new favorite roll. I also like the stew, but minus the tofu. Can't stand that stuff.

My order of pump gas preference

On my bike with no catalytic convertor, there is a noticeable difference in the smell of the exhaust between Kwik Trip and other brands. No real difference in performance or MPG, but on a cold start, I can notice it. My guess is whatever additives they put in their gasoline is what's making the...

Anyone tried 87 octane in a Harley?

The Sportster 1200s were ok for regular grade till 2004 when the compression was bumped to 9.5:1. I'm not certain about what the Big Twins ran for stock compression ratios. Since H-D engines have a rather large combustion chamber, fuel with too high of octane might actually reduce performance...

Harley/ motorcycle oil guys - quietest motor oil

FYI, and I'm not sure if it's that some are missing it, or if a side topic is beginning to exist in this thread, but the XR1200 is an Evo not a Twin Cam.

Harley/ motorcycle oil guys - quietest motor oil

Schaeffer's #707 Supreme V-Twin is what I used in my Sporty. '06 XL1200L. Never had any abnormal valvetrain noise, but even watching some YouTube videos on the XR, it seems like they do have a more pronounced noise to them. I personally wouldn't let it bother me. Might have something to do with...

Multi-Purpose 2-cycle oils: How is this possible?

To the OP, have you considered Schaeffer's oil at all? I run it in my 2-stroke outdoor power equipment at the OEM premix ratio, and also as injection oil in my snowmobile. Works great, but a little more smoky than some other brands. That doesn't bother me though...

My order of pump gas preference

Around here, we have Kwik Trip stores that are for the most part, very nice clean stations that sell a huge volume of gasoline. For my Jeep, I tend to favor these stores, with my #2 being Mill's Fleet Farm, if I have to buy something in the store... You get a 4¢/gallon coupon for their gas...

    Why 20-50 so widely used/recommended for Harley's?

No worries about 20w50, especially if you're running a full synthetic. H-D air-cooled engines are all roller bearing on the bottom end. My V-Rod has plain bearings and much higher oil pressure, so in my opinion, really good oil is more important in this engine than the "airheads". I always ran...

    Best oil for 2003 V-Rod?

So far, the M1 V-twin has been so-so. It doesn't provide that "liquid silk" feeling like Schaeffer's did, but the gearshifts are smooth, albeit a little more "notchy" feeling. Clutch engagement is fine, but again, the Schaeffer's oil did make a noticeable difference on the smoothness of the...

    Best oil for 2003 V-Rod?

Ok, so I've pretty much quadrupled the life of the oil with the Schaeffer's vs. whatever [censored] they had in the bike when I got it. A little under 5k on this change, and it's just starting to every now and then get a little sticky feeling when shifting, and the clutch is starting to engage a...
