Best gear oil for a diff with a slight whine

Hello all. I recently noticed a slight whine from the diff on my Dodge Ram with a Standard Chrysler 9.25 Differential and about 130,000 on the clock. I have sadly neglected this diff. I can only remember gear oil change on it. Weird, Because I change engine oil for fun sometimes. But is there a...

    Anyone heard of Cermax?

The guy left a bottle of it at work for me. It's $30 for 2oz so it's rather expensive, But would be well worth the price if any of these claims were true (I have my doubts). However, He did show me his Dodge truck and it was considerably quieter that any other V-10 I ever seen (I used to drive a...

    Anyone heard of Cermax?

www.cermatechnology.com I don't know what to think of it. I have a customer who swears by it in his Dodge V-10. I think it's probably #@$%! but I'm at least kind of interested. Some of the claims are pretty wild.

Did my own oil change today!

Congrats! I might actually let someone else change my oil sometime just for the novelty of it. I've done every single oil change thats ever been done on any of my vehicles. As for the engine noise, You are probably being paranoid. I noticed slighty more valvetrain noise with M1 HM than with...

    Quick question for you guys.

I recently switched my truck over to Mobil 1 HM. I'm very happy so far. I told my dad about it, And he decided to switch his 1993 Dodge Dakota over to it as well. However, Being kind of a tightwad, He had 2 qts of Valvoline Maxlife left from a case he bought a few changes ago. So basically he...

    Metal particles in Oil

My guess would be that it's just carbon particles in the oil. I would definatly check it out though. If your truck is a dodge (with a 318/360) I can pretty much assure you it's carbon. Those motors for whatever reason made lot's of carbon.

New (used) truck, How about this oil?

Ok. Mobil 1 HM is in the truck. I noticed an instant difference. The trucks feels a little smoother (probably my imagination) and actually runs a little cooler. I'm going to go with 2 very short intervals (1500 miles) to minimize an chance of of plugging up anything. Is it possible for an oil to...

Car dying which oil Engine KNOCK (Honda Civic)

Before I went on my own, I worked for a landscaping company that used a old Dodge Ramcharger as one of it's plow trucks. It had a horrible knock to it. The kind of knock that makes you wonder if it's going to make it home. They used to use Delvac 15W40 in it and it ran like that for the 3 years...

New (used) truck, How about this oil?

Thanks. My main concern was the slight main seal seepage/leak. But after doing a little bit of homework, It seems that while leakage may incerase for a while, It almost certainly slow down over time much like it does with auto RX.

New (used) truck, How about this oil?

So can I assume because no one has torn Mobil 1 HM apart it's a decent oil for my truck? TallPaul-- I'll consider Maxlife. I guess I figured for the nominal cost between the two, Mobil 1 would be worth it. I assume it's a "high(er)" detergent oil as well? This engine isn't nearly as clean as my...

New (used) truck, How about this oil?

I recently purchased a used 1996 Ram at auction. It's in pretty good shape and runs pretty well. I was looking over the Mobil webpage and have been looking for an oil like this for a long time. The truck has a *very* minor main seal leak, Not enough to change the level on the stick or anything...

    Bought some TropArtic

Trop Artic is an excellent oil. I used it since new in my 95 Dodge Ram. 266,000 and still running strong. That's proof enough for me. I recently had do the valve covers on my truck and was amazed how clean it was in there. I have another 1996 Ram I just bought and it's pretty sludged up from...

Most reliable engine, independent of oil used?

For Gasoline motors.... Chrysler 318. In service from the late 50s until 2003. I have one with 266,000 miles on it and it's pretty tight. It now uses about a quart of oil every 1500 miles. A steady diet of Trop Artic 10W30 was it need to get this far. Never had drop of synthetic in it, But was...

    Synthetic blend at 200,000 miles?

I changed it today. I've always be weary of running synthetic in high mileage engines, But what the heck. I've had this truck since new and never used anything but Trop Artic. A family friend who ran a 66 station turned me on to it when I bought the truck in 95. When he shut down in 2000 he gave...

    Synthetic blend at 200,000 miles?

Hello, I recently depleted my stock pile of regular 10w30 Trop Artic and all I can find is the blended stuff. Truck runs great, no leaks, and does not use any oil. Would it be safe to run the synthetic blend or would that be a problem with that many miles. If it helps it's a Dodge Ram pickup...
