    VOA Pennzoil Platinum 5W30 (Canada)

Really good lab. I've also used Wear Check in Burlington a lot in the past but I have issue with their method of testing and reporting oxidation/nitration/sulfation. FluidLife does it right. I've also split a sample and had it tested by both labs for comparison. They come out pretty much the...

    Gave ARX another try

Stang5, you're not alone. My engine (Chrysler 2.7L V6) looked very much like yours after 3 ARX treatments. I had the engine open again this past summer and the varnish was still all there. With my engine, ARX doesn't appear to have done anything. Compression has never changed but it couldn't...

Cheap tool for cut oil filter open.

    VOA Pennzoil Platinum 5W30 (Canada)

VOA of PP5W30 done by FluidLife (Brantford, Ontario lab), Jan 5, 2009. Fluidlife requires a sample of virgin oil to establish a baseline (zero) before they will do the oxidation/nitration/sulfation tests on a crankcase sample (which is why this analysis was done). Silcon....2 Sodium....1...

    Heat pump anyone

I've got a York Heat Pump here that is going on 23 years. Not a problem with it. I've thought about replacing it something more modern and efficient. Geographically, this is questionable area for heat pumps (southern Ontario, Canada). The climate here is considerably more moderate than the rest...

    Problematic Engines

There was the sludge thing, and the rod bearing failures. The rod bearings failures weren't as prevalent as the sludge issue, but I think they were a bit of mystery too.

    Useful Special Use Tools

Crow's foot wrench set. They'll sit unused most of the time until you need to loosen a nut in an impossible location. Hose clamp pliers. Remote hose clamp plier. Gear wrenches - absolutely awesome. And I'm surprised at how much I use all my 1/4" drive stuff when working on the engine. 1/4"...

500,000 KM (300,000 Miles) and using what oil?

My brother's last two Hondas ( a Civic and a CRX) both went well past 550K km (340K miles). I don't recall the exact mileages but the CRX may have been over 600K km. All he did was Costco $20 oil changes every 10K km. Bear in mind that Hondas could probably go that far with vegetable oil in...
