Older cars = shorter oil change intervals, why?

I think there was a day when they changed the oil every 1000 miles. And once upon a time (Model T days) they would put very thin, practically kerosene, in the crankcase for winter, else they would end up building a fire under the oil pan in order to start it. Back in the early 1900s oil got very...

    Grill Mats

I once used a grill mat (piece of cardboard) between the grill and the radiator because my 1984 F150 would run too cold in winter.

What do you experts say about this Ranger?

It's got the cheesy fake fancy wheels that my 2001 came with. They hold water and rust. I replaced mine with steelies. I would not get it with an automatic either. The 2.3 loves to wind out to the high 5000s (rev limiter on my 2001 is about 5800) and that is a lot more fun with a manual. I...

Is an air filter change necessary on a small engin

is there any way to look though it at a bright light? Compare the used to a new one and usually there is a big difference in light transmission. I think it is generally considered that if the light is darkened much, then the air passage is also hindered. Is the filter that expensive to not...

How do you curb your wheels?

Not many hills in my neck of the woods but yeah I have curbed it a few times. What I don't understand is people parking on flat surfaces with the wheels cocked hard to one side.

Need quality clutch master and/or slave cylinder

Well after about 200 miles of driving it seems to have settled in and now has about 1/2-3/4 inches free play at the top and begins to engage about 1 to 1.5 inches off the floor. The engagement part of the pedal is fairly wide for a nice smooth release. Working great.

Need quality clutch master and/or slave cylinder

Got a lot of pedal now, actually a bit high up, but nice engagement range. There is little to no free play though, and maybe that is partly because the clutch disk has 40,000 miles on it, but it does engage solidly with no slippage. Someone told me they had a similar experience of a high pedal...

Need quality clutch master and/or slave cylinder

My mechanic ordered the parts last Monday and now has the Genuine Ford blue strip parts (master, slave and release bearing) at his shop. The truck goes in Monday. I also gave him three qts of Amsoil Manual Syncromesh Transmission Fluid to refill the tranny. The Redline MTL has been in there...

Need quality clutch master and/or slave cylinder

Well, thanks for all the advice. I will keep it in mind and try to get blue label Ford parts for this, but at this time I am still running it and not having issues. But I am pumping the pedal everyday when I am on the steep up and down ramps of the parking structure, figuring that may push the...

Need quality clutch master and/or slave cylinder

Maybe I should get an AC Delco master cylinder. My son has an S10, same year as my Ranger, about the same miles and it is on the original master and slave and still working great. Of course that was 2001 parts and now it is 2017. Sounds like it is best to get the pre bled with reservoir and...

Need quality clutch master and/or slave cylinder

I have a 2001 Ford Ranger with a manual transmission. The original slave cylinder went out at 70,000 miles and was replaced only to be eaten by a blown release bearing 10,000 miles later. At that time the slave, release bearing, and clutch were replaced. Then we discovered that the master...

Forget using oil filters. VW didn't have them on the beetle and those things ran forever.
