I rock vintage Mitsubishi DA rack. Very underrated & can/could be found for a fraction of Marantz & other brands. Last house. This is now a bedroom setup:

    Trade Request: HPL 5W30

Where in CA are you? Like Rand said, shipping costs would make a non local swap impractical.

    Generac OCI observations

My 18kW Generac air cooled standby generator will be getting its annual oil change next month. It calls for 5/30 synthetic & I have some HPL PCMO 5/30 on hand so that's what's going in. Manual states 2.2qts.

    Yet another grid-scale battery fire

Here’s the State of CA’s inundation map: https://fmds.water.ca.gov/webgis/?appid=dam_prototype_v2 It’s not very friendly on a mobile device.

    Yet another grid-scale battery fire

CA policies have destabilized our own BES. There are entire insurance companies pulling out of home insurance in CA. State Farm won't start a new policy for anyone in the state. They'll carry you if you've already had an ongoing policy but that's it.

WOW- Ausgrid charging customers for EXPORTING solar electricity back to the grid!

On peak is already past $0.50/kWh and closer to $0.74/kWh at the public utilities. Municipality pricing will be catching up by 2030 as they were allowed to keep some favorable PPA’s & a much larger percentage of internal CT fleets. Those PPA’s will expire by 2030 so any external purchase will be...

WOW- Ausgrid charging customers for EXPORTING solar electricity back to the grid!

Prices go negative daily in CA. Generation that isn’t subsidized has to pay to generate during daytime hours, generally HE09-HE18 or so. The subsidized PV & wind stations get paid an average of $75/mWh during these same hours. @SubieRubyRoo it already costs more money to operate the BES with...

Do you follow severe differential oil change interval?

Same. Use Amsoil SVG 75/90 in both the Canyon & Bronco.

Do you follow severe differential oil change interval?

My Canyon has to be on a lift for me to get to the fill plug. GM offered a couple different pumpkins on these & I got one that is a complete PITA with the fill plug too high & tucked up out of the way to get to until on a lift. I know I should be thinking if it's already on a lift just take the...

What are you doing right now?

Yes. 200-400k/yr. That’s top step journeyman wages with built in ot (8hrs ot on 48hr weeks), shift differential (anywhere from $2-10/hr on top of base hourly wage), occasional ot shift, bonus, etc. Base rates are anywhere from 60’s/hr to 130ish/hr. Not current airline pilot rates by any...

No degree is required for most entities. A NERC system operator certification is required for system operators but getting in at the apprentice or trainee level will bypass that. Although passing the test (and retaining the license) will be a requirement for continued employment.

What are you doing right now?

The unions don’t like 12hr shifts since it takes less employees to cover the same time period, hence less dues. Ask any worker & they’ll tell you the 12’s are much nicer than 8’s on a shift schedule. That said, most system operators make more than engineers. I moved to a smaller entity for the...

What are you doing right now?

Electricity & water don’t turn off when everyone else goes home. Someone has to operate the grid & control water flows from N to S. If the new generation doesn’t want to put in the work, well, these nice things won’t be around anymore. Also, only working 14 out of every 28 days isn’t so bad...

What are you doing right now?

I haven’t been able to hire anyone from the new GenZ. Have only a couple millennials as well. Of my hires over the last 6yrs, the youngest has been about 35-36 & that was this latest round only a couple months ago. Rotating 12hr shifts are a barrier to many but the younger generations seem to...

I’m about 3’ from monitors at work but the amount of data cells is gargantuan, hence the larger screens. Also have two video walls for the big stuff. Wish I could do some WFH. Employer won’t even let us train from home for required ceh’s. Instead of disciplining one abuser they punish the...
