Newbie question about dirtier than usual oil.

But then, even new engines experience blow-by. I'll see what it looks like after this oci is drained.

Newbie question about dirtier than usual oil.

That thought did cross my mind. Higher than usual rpms sustained for 2,000 miles during this oci, I should expect more blow-by I think.

On mine, it's easy to think you have it completely sealed while it's actually not on the bottom. You really have to know to look for it.

Newbie question about dirtier than usual oil.

I think there may not have been a point but not sure.

Newbie question about dirtier than usual oil.

No pre-filter, but the leak would bypass the filter. Theoretically, my filter would last longer but my engine would suck dirt.

Newbie question about dirtier than usual oil.

I did catch myself once not sealing at the bottom side. That seems to be an easy mistake to make on this design.

Newbie question about dirtier than usual oil.

UPDATE: My new Motorcraft air filter arrived yesterday. My old filter @ 17k miles was dirty as hell. Almost no sunlight would shine through it. Haynes says to replace every 30k; I will change every 15k from now on.

Newbie question about dirtier than usual oil.

I had always assumed my engine was clean based on my drains looking pretty translucent and reddish, for used oil. Certainly looked nothing like my oil changes in the 1980s. Today's oil drain looked like I time traveled back to 1985 and drained my 390, but no lumps or shiny stuff.

I used to run the m1 hm 5w30 but when I wanted to switch to 5w40 I couldn't find HM in 5w40. Do you know of one that is synthetic?

I will change air filter today. I can't find a HM oil in 5w40. Do you know of one?

I did check pcv and it does rattle freely.

Newbie question about dirtier than usual oil.

I am not original owner. I bought 2.5 years ago with 180k miles. I have done all the maintenence in Haynes manual since buying it, except my diffential fluid (I've bought it but been procrastinating on that one for some reason).

Wouldn't I notice my truck running or idling like crap if pcv hose was leaking?

I did not think of that. Should've been the first thing I thought of. I will check it today. Thank you.

I'll probably change it today. This one is a 2v, no cam phaser problems with this from my understanding. Bought it 2.5 years ago with 180k miles. It was a fleet truck. Didn't seem like fuel in oil and my gas mileage is what I expect.
