Thanks for everyone's input. I think I'll try and stick close to the recommended oci, but at least with synthetic I won't feel worried if I run over that due to work schedule, etc. As for the filter I'll consider the oem ones, but that will be after I use up the Fram ultra and tough guards...

Guess I forgot to mention that. I drive a lot, probably 80 to 85 percent highway miles. Some suburban driving but not much stop and go if I time it right. Probably drive 20 to 25k a year. I have a 2nd car that I drive part of the time otherwise I drive closer to 40k a year. I'm in Illinois so...

I agree a uoa would probably be a good idea in the near future. I also agree about all the speculation and guesses on what might be best. I was going on the assumption that someone else on here has the same engine and looking to see what they have been using with good results.

I'm inclined to agree. My owners manual specs 5w30. Much later Ford changed the spec to 5w20. Maybe I'm old fashioned but I don't run 5w20 in anything including my wife's 3.0 v6 escape.

Somehow I clicked on the wrong post to reply. I actually meant to respond to the supertech 5w30 reply. But I am somewhat leaning towards the 5w40 for the higher hths viscosity for higher highway speeds in the middle of summer.
