The car's manual says trust the OLM. The OLM says two years is fine. The oil manufacturer says change at one year (at most). I've bothered to read the car's manual. I've bothered to read the oil's documentation. They disagree. THAT'S why I've asked the question.

I'm following the OLM - I'm at one year, 4 months and it tells me I have 35% left. This tells me it's using the time limit for my numbers. Back when I asked Mobil 1 if I could obey GM's OLM and put two years on their oil, they said "Absolutely not!"

We use the engine so little that the OLM is essentially a two year countdown timer.

2015 Chevy Volt. I'd guess the engine in it runs maybe 5000 miles over the 2 years the oil life monitor gives the oil. But, I'm asking the more general question: Mobil's own specifications say they're 20k mile, 1 year oils. So, what's the technical difference in the oils?

Why? What's the technical reason? Is AP better oil? How so? Because they're pretty much spec'ed the same.

That's easy. I'm opinionated. What I'm trying to find out is whether my engine should be.

"This Stuff" could be one of the several motor oils they make, one of the several oil additives they make, the engine flush, or one of the many other products. Are you referring to their motor oil? If so, which one(s)?

Pep Boys still has AP. More pricey than EP. However, I'm looking for technical differences (or confirmation that they're insignificant). I'm quite aware of the AP availability issues.
